Went into my local LGS today and there was a Performance Center S&W 642 there for a ridiculous price. A guy had bought it for his wife, who fired one round, dropped it and gave up on it. It literally has a ring around only one cylinder hole! I'd been saving up for a Dillon 550, but I couldn't pass this one up. Here's a pic of what it looks like:

That's a gem right there Deacon. Good score for you!

beautiful handle!!! I too was going to buy a rb550 but settled on Lee Pro 1000 and couldn't be happier, it will outload any 550 hands down...

if you're sold on blue I would skip the 550 and go for the 650...

That's a beauty. You're gonna love that. I've found the j frame I bought back in March carries real well in cargo shorts pockets. 16 oz. Loaded.

It's been too long since there was a J frame here. I've had great results with the Winchester 110 grain +P JHPs.

How's the trigger, does the performance center do an "action job" before it ships?

Good buy there...

I picked my 642 up for a very good price in a private sale. My son called one afternoon to ask if I interested in a co-workers gun. I had the cash in the gun safe and met with the old boy near his job. He handed me the gun, loaded (finger out of the guard, but barrel first...Grrrrr!) the OG case, paperwork and 3/4th of a box of 158grn +P ammo.

He said the gun was "too much recoil for me". An Airweight, loaded with158 grn +P Monarchs... too much... really?

His loss, my gain and thanks buddy. He need the quick sale to fund his "Sig Sauer dreams". Five moths later my Son asked if I was interested in the Sig to fund a "Kimber 1911 jones...". Some folks are never happy.

Enjoy your J frame.

kenemoore, yeah, those have the action job on the triggers. It literally felt as good as my K frames from the 1920s in smoothness.

Great find. Snubbies are great guns, and yours is one of the best available.

I keep a 340pd and a 640 around (my PM9 replace them for most pocket carry) and last week I shot my CT 405 laser gripped 340, and from the hip, two hand hold, 30', all five rounds in a 4" circle on a regular basis. I load 357 cases with 6.1 gr Unique and a 125 gr plated bullet. Accurate and manageable.

Try some 135 gr. Gold Dot Short Barrel factory loads.

340, thanks for the tip, I will try them.

Tried the trigger pull on a PC S&W 642 at the LGS. Best trigger pull I have ever felt on a D.A. revolver. Also, only revolver I have held with S&W Performance enhancement.

Yeah, it is a world of difference between that and a regular S&W J frame.

A smile for the day, ordered a new DeSantis holster for the gun. It arrived today, now if the guy that owes me money will get it to me, i will get the S&W to go with it!

Very nice! I don't have a wheel gun, other than an old 22 my dad gave me. Something like this would definitely be a great addition. Very jealous.

I like the boot grips. So... is the trigger better than a model 60 with a trigger job (my personal "standard').

I've never handled another J frame with a trigger job. I can honestly say the DA pull on this is as nice as a couple of prewar M&Ps I have.
