View Full Version : Best replacement sight options for CM9?
What are some good options to consider for replacement CM9 sights? I don't particularly dislike the stock sights, but something for better night use and quicker alignment would be preferred considering this is my daily carry piece.

Dawson Precision has front tritium sights in eight different heights for CM/CW Kahrs. They offer the fiber optic front in three different widths. I just put their front night sight on my E9. I like it.

+1 on their FO front sight. I have night sights on my PM, but would replace with FO front and flat black rear when the night sight fails.

I concur with the other folks in that the Dawson products are an excellent choice.
Still, I like the Trijicon sights that Kahr sells.
I replaced just the front sight on my CM9:

On my CW9 and CW45, I installed complete sets:

XS also makes sights that will work on the CM/CW series (without milling), but you have to contact them directly about those sights as they are not listed on their website.

Did you remove the white line from the rear sight? If so, why?

Yes, I removed it. I don't care for the "Dot the I" thing that much.

I put night sights on my CW9, but for the CM9 I decided on a laser sight because of the short sight radius. I chose a Viridian R5 because it has a sensor that turns on the laser when the gun is removed from the special OWB holster that comes with the gun. There is also a kit you can buy from Viridian to modify any holster for the same capability. I put that on my pocket holster and it works.
I've had a couple of Crimson Trace laser sights, but I didn't like them because by the 3rd or 4th shot I always seem to lose contact with the tiny button that activates them. I also looked at other sights that stay on if you push a button, but I like not having to find a button in a moment of extreme stress. There is also a button to turn off the laser for when you need to store the gun outside the holster or clean it.
I've had the Viridian R5 at the range several times and shot a couple hundred rounds using it. I even shot it in a practical pistol match. It has held zero just fine. The laser reliably turns on and off using the sensor. It seems durable, but I'm not hard on things.

I'd much rather the grip activated button than being required to turn the laser on and off with a non grip button. I practice with the CTL so much that it is very instinctive and I can't see how in the world my grip could release the activation. But perhaps, that's just me.

Good stuff here! Tagged, cause I just got a CM9. I didn't even know night sights were a possibility with a CM9 until I read this thread..

My point is that the Viridian R5 activates automatically and doesn't require pushing a button.

Practice point shooting or instinctive shooting . Same thing . Under very low light conditions or high stress you may never see the sights . Under very dark conditions if you focus on the front sight you may never see the BG too. So it good to practice shooting at arms reach to 10 yards over time not focusing on the sights.
I want to replace the front sight, and I think the Dawson Precision ones are probably as good as any... but I am confused as to which one to get: https://www.dawsonprecision.com/ProductDetail.jsp?LISTID=800017B7-1388518379
Why are there different heights? I just want something that is the same as the existing front sight, but not invisible in low light. Which one should I choose for that?

The different heights allow for elevation correction. You can measure your existing front sight to verify, but I believe you'll find it's around .175
Dawson's .180 is close to that, but it could move the point of impact down a little from where it is with the stock sights.

Greg
Edit: I was able to find a taken off CW front sight and, after cleaning up the remains of the two posts, found it measured .180" tall and .140" wide

Hmm, I'm not looking to have to re-learn how to shoot my Kahr, rather just looking for a replacement sight that is the same in height that I have now, just easier to see in the dark.
I don't own a set of calipers unfortunately so can not check. Anyone here have a set to measure?

My CM9 front sight is .170 tall.
Hmm, seems they're all out of stock at the moment anyhow.
So, I'm just concerned with throwing off the point of aim too much.
If I get the front sights ( http://www.dawsonprecision.com/ProductDetail.jsp?LISTID=800017B7-1388518379 ) and the rear sights ( http://www.dawsonprecision.com/ProductDetail.jsp?LISTID=800017AE-1388518379 ), what sizes should I get to ensure that I don't have to relearn how to shoot this thing? I mean, this isn't a tack-drivin' gun anyhow, but still. Trying to not have throw off my aim.
Would the 190T/.125N rear sight be a good match for the 180T/.125W front sight? I assume the second number on the rear sight is the size of the opening/slot/notch/whatever, correct?

Old thread, but good as any I guess to find out....For a CM9, Dawson front Fiber Optic sight...Is this the correct sight to order 180T x 125W?

Waiting for my CM9 to come back from repair, I bought a Taurus G2c .......just because. I put Dawson FO sights on it and like them very much, so I am finally going to replace my front sight when I get my CM9 back. I go to Dawson and see there is no FRONT CM9 sight only for sale. There is a kit and it shows a front FO sight as 180T x 125W. I like the Bar/dot sight arrangement and do not want to change the rear sight. Now for the CW9, there is a FRONT sight only for sale and it is the same height and width as the front sight in the CM9 front and rear package. Before I order...will that CW9 sight work on my CM9?

Yes, .180" height is good (see my edited post #13 above), just know the DP sight is a little thinner at .125" than stock plastic sight (.140")
FWIW, Kahr lists P/N: 034a, front sight as unique to CT, CW, and CM series pistols (it also fits the old E9 pistol)
https://www.kahr.com/PDF/kahrpartslist.pdf
BTW, Where are you seeing a CW9 only front sight? Those I see on the Dawson site list as CW CM: https://dawsonprecision.com/sights/kahr/dawson-front-sights/
You can purchase (if in stock) a Trijicon front night sight for the CM/CT/CW series pistols:

Yep my bad on the CW sight only....I never noticed it said CW then on the next line CM. I have never really tried a Trijicon sight. Might look into it though...thanks

I installed the Dawson front fiber optic sight on the CM9. It is better than the factory installed white dot sight, but not 100% satisfied with it. The actual fiber optic could be larger, and the installation of the sight is not the optimum way of installing a sight thanks to the way Kahr designed it on the C series. Beating on a little angle tool to flair the posts is not a great design by a long shot. I guess that is one of the little downside features with owning the "Value Series" Kahr. Sort of like buying a 1985 Dodge Charger, with a 4 cylinder engine and wanting it to be like a 1971 with a 426 Hemi.
mike-usn-ret, which is why I said screw it. if my CM9 was going to be my EDC, I wanted it to be the way I wanted . had a dovetail milled in front and installed TFOs, grn./ft., yel/r. now I have more flavors to choose from then the pin sights available. guess you could say I got a Dodge Dart with a 426 hemi. a sleeper until you look closer.

Maybe it is just I got use to the 3 dot fiber optic set I put on the G2c and need to give this front only a little time. The sight is not bad, just a little small I think.15524

If the sight came with an extra replacement rod you might be able to melt into a bigger dot when fitting it.
Polish it a bit before you install so as much of the light will pass thru as possible. May or may not work in all cases.

Will Kahr mill a CM for a dovetail sight and if not who would be good to do it...I have TFO's on all my Glocks and think best sights I have ever used
Bigdave35180, try a LGS which offers gunsmith services;Kahr wouldn't do it, Gander wouldn't do it either. went to my LGS, and they did it for $75. best choice I've made in a long time.

I found a nearly LGS that came highly recommended, Lynn Ryle, L&L Gunsmithing, Athens, Al. He shares the same adoration of Truglo TFO sights that I do.

I installed a Dawson front on my CZ didn't like how small it is. Good for bullseye shooting at 25 yards+ but a poor combat site for 64 year old eyes. Installed TFX Pros, excellent combat but poor bullseye. Just can't win.
About the CM, so about $75 for the dovetail cut plus the sights plus extra mags. That's one of the reasons I always purchase the P series.
