I just purchased a CM9 after contemplating buying a Kahr for quite some time. Are there any reliability issues with the current mags being produced?

I'm particularly looking at the

7 round with extension
8 round with extension

Either of my PM9's has had any problem with the 7rd mag., but some shooters seem to have difficulty with them.

And thats a strange situation, since in the P9 the 7's do fine. And the 8's do fine in the TP9.

This strange juxtaposition has folks concluding that its not so much a magazine problem, as it is other factors, derived from the small size of the PM9/CM9, its short magazine well, grip and finger placement of the shooter.... that sort of thing.

To be honest, my old (now gone ) PM9 ran everything it got fed. And it was a well used, well broken in pistol. The new PM9 that replaced it, did fine, but its only been tried a few times with the 7rd mag.

+1. ^^^^

and take them apart, clean them, and check the orientation of the spring. Sometimes they get installed backwards.

There are mods detailed within this forum for all sorts of cures/improvements but I wouldn't worry about those unless you experience an issue. If you do, just post it here and members will point you in the right direction.

I cannot say why some people have issues with extended mags. Mine have all run fine.

Welcome.

I can tell you that the 6 and 7 round magazines have been fine in my CM9. I had an 8 rounder for my CW9 that I had to do the "follower mod" on, but no experience with an 8 rounder in the CM9.

If I ever get the wild idea to buy more mags for my MK9, I'll probably get some 8 rounders.

I'll trade you a 7 rounder for a 6 round flush fit if you're interested.

Thank you for your replies.
I picked up my CM9 yesterday
I noticed that my 7&8 round mags with extensions do not drop freely, so I will beat them with a hammer to fix this.

Same technique I use on my kids...

Does anyone sell the 8 round magazines for a reasonable price?

Maybe so, but carefully squeezing them in a vise might work better. I don't know how well that works on kids....

I should add that it doesn't matter whether they are 6 or 7 round mags in my PM9, they all work flawlessly.

I bought mine from grabagun.com. The 7-round was $27.39, and the 8-round was $30.98. Shipping was $7.82 for the cheapest method and they were here in less than a week.
I rotated these 2 mags, along with the 6 round that I got through the Kahr free offer through my 200 round break in at the range earlier this week.
My personal observation is that I'd probably rather have a second 7-round mags instead of the 8-round, for a couple of reasons. The first is that the 8-round mag sticks too far out of the handgrip. The second reason is that the spring in the 8-round is extremely stiff, to the point that it makes loading all 8 rounds into the mag extremely difficult. I suppose I could cut the spring down some but don't really know how much.

The only real problems that I have had with CM magazines is sharp edges that can cut a finger while loading them and a tendacy for rounds to pop out after being loaded into the magazine.
