This is my first customization project: Hogue Grips made from a bicycle Tire Tube (1.75 tube) I used the common 26 x 1.75. If you cant find a used tube in the trash you can buy a new one for $5.50 at Kmart. You will have enough rubber to make over 12 grips.

This was my first attempt and as you can see it did not come out perfect because I did not take the time to measure exactly and to trace the angle of the curve on my CT-9.

If I was doing it a second time I would take a piece of white paper towel or napkin and hold it over the grip. Then use a thin tip marker to trace the exact angle of curve on both top and bottom. Then with this "model" I would place it over the rubber tube and cut exactly, using a sharp pair of scissors.

Of course first step is to make sure you have an unloaded firearm. Check it twice to make sure.

Now: The hardest part is getting the rubber onto the handle. What I used was 2 inches of water with a drop of Dawn dish soap in it mixed at the bottom of a glass. Then I dunked the rubber in the glass and turned it upside down and dunked again. It was dripping wet. THen I began to slide it on. Took about 6 minutes total. It you have weak hands it will take a long time. Dont be afraid to really stretch the rubber and man-handle it. It wont break. If I had put it on like a macho man from the get-go I would have completed the task in under 3 minutes.

I highly recommend it, No more pain from the cheese graters at the shooting range. And also you dont have to worry about the handle scratching your tummy when you are concealed carrying it.

Jocko did the same thing to his PMJ9 only he used a ribbed condom. He didn't have any other use for it. :)

There's another means of putting the tubing on with much less muscle and effort. I've used it to put a rubber grip on the handle of a recurve bow. Those are typically larger and more complicated than a pistol grip.

The basic procedure is to roll the correct length of inner tube into little "donut" and roll it into position. Then unroll it back down the grip and tug it into position. You can also run a shoelace or small rope through the rolled rubber donut and use it to pull the inner tube into position before unrolling. You can pull, slide the rope around to the other side, pull, slide it back....

I could not find any photos of this method, but here is a video of someone putting one on a bow by the rolling idea. Just add a small rope to the equation. Hope that helps!

Unfortunately, it makes changing mags a bit difficult.

Hey good job there , Guess I wasted some space in a reply to your shooting tread. Oooh well. MY oldest inner tube grip aid has been one for almost 6 1/2 years.

Call me an oddball, but I like the aggressive texture of Kahr grips.

Me, too. I toughened my hands from years of hard work. Let that be a lesson to you slackers.

I unsure on that point, but I'm sure that his choice in condoms was Natural Lamb. :)

It is important to have a nice clean cut in the innertube. Any kind of a nick on the edge and it will tear if you go the manhandle routine which is the only way I know.

I love my Kahr CM9 so much that I don't grip it, I embrace it. :)

I have used bicycle inner tubes as grips on several guns. Makes a very nice cushion against that rough backstrap and just feels good when shooting. With my arthritic hands, though, it took about 15 minutes to get it on like I wanted.

We are still talking about grip sleeves, right? :o

Nothing wrong with the inner tube; but I do like the palm swell on my Hogue's. I use the Hogue on my P9 Covert. I use the inner tube on my Keltec P3AT.

Yes, grip sleeves. The other takes much longer. :o

I have small hands, with the added "advantage" of arthritis. 15 minutes was probably conservative. The inner tube has been a hand saver for me on my TCP 380, my CZ82, and now this CW45. Maybe it was the inner tube, but the CW45 recoil was way less than I expected.
