This is my first customization project: Hogue Grips made from a bicycle Tire Tube (1.75 tube) I used the common 26 x 1.75. If you cant find a used tube in the trash you can buy a new one for $5.50 at Kmart. You will have enough rubber to make over 12 grips.
This was my first attempt and as you can see it did not come out perfect because I did not take the time to measure exactly and to trace the angle of the curve on my CT-9.
If I was doing it a second time I would take a piece of white paper towel or napkin and hold it over the grip. Then use a thin tip marker to trace the exact angle of curve on both top and bottom. Then with this "model" I would place it over the rubber tube and cut exactly, using a sharp pair of scissors.
Of course first step is to make sure you have an unloaded firearm. Check it twice to make sure.
Now: The hardest part is getting the rubber onto the handle. What I used was 2 inches of water with a drop of Dawn dish soap in it mixed at the bottom of a glass. Then I dunked the rubber in the glass and turned it upside down and dunked again. It was dripping wet. THen I began to slide it on. Took about 6 minutes total. It you have weak hands it will take a long time. Dont be afraid to really stretch the rubber and man-handle it. It wont break. If I had put it on like a macho man from the get-go I would have completed the task in under 3 minutes.

I highly recommend it, No more pain from the cheese graters at the shooting range. And also you dont have to worry about the handle scratching your tummy when you are concealed carrying it.
