In N.C., you can let your gun show - Crime/Safety - NewsObserver.com (http://www.newsobserver.com/2010/06/21/543334/in-nc-you-can-let-your-gun-show.html)
I am one of the ones that prefer conceal carry over open carry. But this will be interesting to watch and see.

I wish they would do that here in Arkansas. Then I could carry a bigger gun. Someone posted about the drawbacks of open carry and I do agree that it might freak alot of people out therefore being a detriment to our right to carry at all. Then again, it would probably keep you from ever having to use your gun and would probably cut down on violent crime if bad guys know a gun toting citizen is nearby.

We had this discussion here a while back, and most of us agreed that concealed is the way to go. Got rather heated it did, then the point was brought up about spooking the locals, shortly after that CA had the Starbucks' crowds. My point is this look where that got them.

Carry how you like so long as it is legal. I sometimes carry a Ruger Old Army revolver with 8 inch barrel. That's just a bit hard to conceal. Lucky for me it is perfectly legal in my state to carry it right out in the open.
I pretty much prefer concealed carry as well, BUT I think the more normal citizens see normal citizens out n about with their handguns plain to see on their sides the less freaked they will be when they see one. Last thing I want is some draconian concealed carry law where when I reach into my pocket for my wallet I have to hold the rest of my shirt down to keep my handgun from peeking out or I risk going to jail or losing my permit to carry.
GA recently passed a law where now I can carry a knife with a blade longer than 5 inches concealed if that is my want. Sad thing is some dufus didn't proofread the bill so it might possibly not be legal to own a rifle with a 16 1/2 inch barrel... I don't want to be the test case for that misshap.

I'm still trying to figure out why a Taurus Judge with a 3 inch barrel firing a .410 shotgun shell is perfectly legal but if I were to cut my Remington .410 shotgun barrel down to less than 18 inchs and get caught I will go to prison....Go figure...

Same as putting the proper barrel on a Tommy gun. You can carry any 45 pistol without issue but a SBR tommy you gotta pay 200 bucks, fill out application, bow on bended knee to everyone (maybe the pres already did that for us) and then still buy the barrel. Rules, rules, rules.
Not like you can slip a Tommy gun into your crossbreed minituck and head out the door.

I think it probably has to do with the fact that the .410 barrel don`t have rifling.Ain`t 100% sure but I think that`s right. If it was up to me,I`d carry a 12 gauge sxs like the one Sean Connery had in The Untouchables. That gun made my britches stick out in front.

I think it has alot to do with how they are marketed originally. Puma makes a replica of the lever action used in the Bounty Hunter, remember him. It has a very short maybe 10 or less barrel and the stocks cut down to just the lever. But it's sold as a handgun to start with, so it's all registered as such. Shotguns don't have quite the paperwork trail.
I believe it's the same with the little AR pistol type guns you see around. They are considered a pistol.
For some reason when you get to a tommy gun with a short barrel they insist it isn't a pistol but a short rifle so it has to be 16"? I hate rules.
Makes my britches stick out in front:biggrin1:, Deitrich, sometimes (well most of the time) you just tear me up. Do stick around, it gets dreadfully less exciting without your contributions.

It is legal here in PA, but unless I'm on my own 13 acres, I keep it covered. Even then a majority of the time I have a shirt covering it.

ur right the judge has very slight rifling.gets it past ATF rules and regulations. In the 3" version with 3" 410 00 buck it should be one heh of a home defense gun. NOt sure I would ever want to shoot the 45 long colt in it. They tell me there is alot of "freebore" in the 410 version (3" model) and there fore the 45 long colt is not accurate at all and looses alot of its velocity aslo due to the free bore play. I still have a full box of 3" sellior and belliott( sp??) 410 3" 00 buck with 5 buck shot in each round. But have never seen a 3" judge around anywhere. I don't want the 2.5" version 410 in the judge, but the 3" has potential IMO..:19:

i believe boxotruth.com tested the ballistics of 410 shells out of the smaller judge. the verdict was that if you were to use the judge for "social work" you better load it with 45LC because shotgun shells made for 28" worth of barrel just wont perform well out of 2.5". the bigger judge no doubt will perform better, question is how much.

We have open carry in Georgia, but I always carry concealed, because I don't want people freaking out around me, such as in a bank.
There was an interesting story in the paper here a while back. It happened Kennasaw, GA, which is an Atlanta suburb that has a city ordinance that everyone must have a firearm in their home, unless they have permission not to. Three guys cruised up to a Waffle House with the intention of robbing it and the customers. They sent one guy into the store to case it, and he saw two male customers sitting in a booth with 45's on their hip. He went back to the car, and they decided to try somewhere else. They were later caught and related the incident to police.
