Trying to work a deal with a member here on a trade, have a question on how to execute and does it sound like I am getting screwed.
Best "deal" I found so far is to have a local gun shop charge me $35 transfer fee and $20 shipping to send a pistol to someone else's FFL in Texas. Then I would have to pay the $35 fee to accept the traded pistol, for a grand total of $90 dollars. What the hell, does that sound right? I know the $35 to accept is correct, but $55 to the gun shop for shipping? I think overnight costs less than that via fedex/ups.
Am I missing something or does anyone know of anyone in the Raleigh, NC market who won't rip people off? I get that I'll pay $30 to accept the transferred weapon...
Rant over.

You should be able to ship the gun to their FFL yourself. Have to verify that their FFL will accept a gun from a private party. You have to ship overnight UPS or priority FED Ex. I don't think Priority Mail works for civilians but LE can use mail also. No getting around paying the transfer fee to recieve his gun. The going rate for the paperwork around here is 25 to 35 dollars. I found a guy recently who will do it for 15. It's just like sending your gun for repair or to someplace to get work done.
I avoid any kind of packaging that suggest a gun is inside, plain brown wrapper. If the place you ship it from don't ask whats inside, don't tell em. If they ask follow the rules as close as possible, say gun parts, or scrap metal. Naah better not do that, not worth it, what with all the feds and stuff. Sleep at night, do the right thing.

Yeah, I looked online and know that I can only ship myself via Fedex or UPS, it has to be overnight and the minimum is $75 between the two. That puts the cost to over $100 when all is said and done after I pay for the local fee to pick up mine. I am just shocked that that the they charge $35 for a transfer fee. $20 for shipping makes sense, that is them using USPS. But $35 for a transfer fee? Sheesh...

I dont think the sending dealer on your end should be charging the transfer fee unless he's putting it into his inventory and then shipping like its from him.
The shippers are the ones doing most of the ripping off. UPS insist on overnight so their employees have less time to steal stuff but at the same time your hangin a big flag on the package that just screams GUN, steal me.
I'll probably go down when I cross the river but many times I've just sent regular mail, packaged very well and said nothing or told a little white lie about the contents. I can't encourage this or condone this activity but 75 bucks will buy some bullets and far more important stuff than a long ride in a big brown truck.

That is what I would rather have happen, but in order to stay on the up and up and not cause potential problems or dismay for the receiving party, I am being legit. I have sent ammo the "illegal" way before, but not a handgun. I would hate to lose the outgoing MK9 or the incoming PM9.
I have a friend who's an FFL working out of his house who charges me $20. But he can mail it via USPS. Last time I shipped guns via FedEx it cost me sixty-something.

GunBroker.com and others have lists of FFL dealers EVERYWHERE and how much they charge. Shop for the best deal on both ends of the trade by zip codes.

Yeah, so far I found my local pawn shop who only charges $20 to receive. My lowest figure for shipping is $55 at the moment.

I may be wrong but I believe UPS allows 2nd day air now for handguns. I know some of the big online vendors are now shipping them that way. Not as cheap as ground, but less than overnight.

I just went though this, make sure the receiver's FFL will accept from an individual and ship it your self. I had a very hard time finding a dealer that would, it's good to shop around. When I found one he was closer and cheaper than my regular dealer :) In NY the handgun needs to be "removed" from your license, to do that the easiest way is to turn it into a dealer and have him ship it, so us NY'ers get hit with FFL transfer fees sides on both sides when we sell.

Yeah, it seems that transfer fees are where they rip you. Apparently it ranges from 5 up to 40 bucks depending on the dealer and where you live. As stated before, the best I can find is $55 for shipping and the transfer fee. Best i can find for local receiving is $20. Sigh..
