Bought the PM about two months ago, took it to the range late yesterday and fired 100 rounds, that's 425 down range so far without a hitch.

Today, when I field stripped for cleaning, the end of the "plunger" (smaller rod) has come off, just 3-4 threads on the end, I was surprised with the assembly came apart in my hands. I assume there was some type of cap on the end. Called Kahr and they promised me a new assembly. I'll let you know how long it takes.
I don't know when it came off, never noticed at the range. After cleaning, I put it all back together and it seems to cycle fine, would not want to bet my life on it though.

This is my first Kahr, is this a common thing, should I put lock-tite or something on it, when the replacement arrives?

Regards,

-Ken

It should be lock-tited when you get it. A few have come off in the past. I periodically just check mine with the slide locked back and make sure it's not working lose.
It seems either they are good to go and never come off or the missed the lock-tite stage and they fly off.
Wyntrout here made his own replacement to have as a spare.

It's just a nut rounded off. I suspect once you get the new one you won't have any more issues. Just look once in awhile to see if the threads are lose. If they ever are I'd just back it off a smidge, put some lock-tite on and tighten it back down.

I always figured if mine fell off I'd have it spot welded so it would never do it again.

The gun will work just fine without it, no worries there.

I could not find anything for the PM45 at their website.

I just looked and I don't see it either. I know I've heard of guys getting their set up. It's not a one piece setup but two separate springs I've heard.

I don't see any sign of it on the web site, must have it hidden well.

I wouldn't break the factory assembly to re-Loctite it, but you could get the PENETRATING version... Green... of Permatex threadlock, and clean the external with alcohol, let it dry, and then put a drop... which is a LOT... on the front of the nut/rod. That stuff wicks in and after setting up is about as strong as the Red Loctite... not for use on ANYTHING small that you want to take apart in the future!

Do NOT use it on sights and set screws that you would like to loosen later!

My post on the PM45 recoil assembly nut and making your own:

FREE replacement assembly from Kahr arrived in today's mail. Not bad, exactly one week from my phone call to tech service.
