Shortly after retired SSgt. Kelly Foster returned from his first tour in Iraq, he bought his dream car — a classic 1965 Ford Mustang.
Unfortunately, the car was far from mint condition. But Foster plugged away at it, working two jobs to pay for fixes on the car little by little (http://www.click2houston.com/news/war-veteran-gets-dream-car-surprise/29073976), according to KPRC-TV.
Then came along Margaret and Timor Martin. They too were in the process of having their own classic restored.
The Martins have family ties to the military and feel that the nation’s soldiers are “underpaid and under appreciated,” they told KHOU-TV (http://www.khou.com/story/news/local/2014/10/12/strangers-pay-for-soldiers-car/17152375/).
So, never having even met Foster at the time, the Pearland, Texas, couple pulled together funds — about $20,000 in total — with nearly three dozen friends and plotted to surprise the veteran with the restored Mustang over the weekend.

“We wanted to kind of pay it forward for someone who has served this country,” Margaret Martin told KHOU.
“They are not taken care of the way someone who is willing to put their life on their line should be treated,” she added.
Foster, who thought he was going to check on the car Saturday, instead saw the finished product.

“I’m extremely surprised. I had no idea this would happen,” Foster told the news station. “I’m speechless.”
Watch KHOU-TV’s report with footage of the big reveal:
“I don’t feel that veterans get treated for what we’ve done, what we’ve been through,” he told KPRC. “To be proven wrong is very touching to me.”
“I’m still wondering if I’m dreaming,” he added.:amflag:

Shortly after I left the service my '68 Chevelle SS 396 was stolen and stripped. Now if you guys were any damn good you'd buy me another one. Now that's what I call a dream car. :) That was a heart warming story, Downtownv. (The S Sgt's, not mine.) :)

It would be nice if people went around and did that sort of thing for Viet Nam vets and any Korean vets that are still alive. I'm thankful that people treat the vets so well today, but I was just thinking of a friend that was in Viet Nam. He's kind of irritated about the way the soldiers are all "heroes" today, while his generation were "baby killers" and such. On one hand he is glad the soldiers are respected and treated well now, and on the other hand a bit resentful at how his generation of soldiers were treated when they came home. And they didn't have any body armor, or all this new high tech gadgetry to help them out. Not to pick on the guy, but what did he do special, that warranted such a gesture? Sounds like he just put in his time and made it home alive and unharmed. Like many other soldiers. I bet some guy walking around on artificial legs, or using artificial arms would have loved that car too.
Sorry to be so negative. The press has a lot to do with it. They vilified Viet Nam, but not much negative is broadcast about Afghanistan, unless some soldier does his job and kills some people that may have been about to attack his base. Or some ******* gets mistreated.
Oh well, the opium poppy fields are flourishing again, and the European banks are full of drug money again. No war on drugs in Afghanistan I guess. At least the Taliban had virtually eliminated the poppy fields. Causing a lot of European banks to run low on cash. Kind of makes me wonder about ALL the reasons we are there sometimes. One action can have multiple benefits to various people and corporations. Knowing how countries have been manipulated into various wars, I just question everything.
I do have to admit that fixing up that car for the vet was a very nice gesture. Muggs, I'll chip in couple bucks to get you a restored SS Chevelle, but I thought you were more of a FoMoCo type of guy.

My mother, Father and Brother all worked for FoMoCo. Of course I'm a Ford man. I'm currently driving a Grand Marquis. That Chevelle was the only GM product that I ever owned. I was just kidding with you guys about restoring one for me. I don't feel that anyone owes me anything for my service. I was simply repaying a debt that I owed to those who served before me and whose actions allowed me to live free in the greatest nation on the face of the earth. I felt that way then and still do to this day. God bless America.

I know you were kidding with us Muggs. My friend tries not let the "hero" thing bother him, but I guess he had some pretty bad experiences when he got back from the war that haunt him. I think when he came back he landed in California, which was probably the worst place he could have ended up as far as the war protesters and "baby killer" crap going on. And the only clothes he had were his uniforms. So he was an easy target for the haters. Once he got back to Oklahoma, things went much better, as many of his friends served and went through much the same thing. Like most vets that actually saw action, he doesn't talk much about it, but every once in awhile, he has to get things off his chest. A lot of things went on during the 60's that ended up have a big effect on the Nation as the commies started off with forming the SDS (Students for a Democratic Society) and leading student protests, later infiltrating things like the NEA, and the Democratic party. And later the EPA, and other bureaucracies. Using the communist plan of taking over from within, and using labels such as Liberal Progressives, to hide under. Some have even wormed their way into Congress, and the President who grew up surrounded by communists and later became good friends with the Ayers family, also communist. And who knows where all else they hiding in. Their promises appeal to the down and out, sharing the wealth and taxing the rich, all that. So they tax the rich to death, and create multiple agencies they have to deal with, then wonder why we don't have more jobs available. When most of "The Rich" are the ones who used to start companies, and provide employment. Then let's add Obamacare on top of all that, and watch more jobs disappear.

I've always marveled at the fact that the people who called us baby killers are the same people who now support abortion on demand. Go figure. I guess that's why I have no use for liberals to this day. I've made a few babies, but I've never killed any. I can't understand why people like Bill Ayers and his wife are still sucking air. Bawanna isn't the only one with issues. :)

Muggs I found a couple of Fords for you that you might be interested in.
The 1961 Ford Gyron, a 2 wheeler, with stablilizing wheels or legs that lowered when you stopped.
It had large gyroscopes in it to keep it stable. It was strictly a test bed car, and never intended for production.

The 1958 Ford Nuclon, that was to be powered by a small nuclear reactor. Wonder what a gallon of U-235 runs these days?
This was a car of the future prototype. Figuring at some point, we'd all have little nuclear reactors powering our homes or something.

Muggs, I don't understand how religious blacks, can keep voting Democrat, knowing they support abortion, and perverts, and many other things they are against. Yet they do. I can understand them voting for Obama, and other black candidates, but not many of the others they vote for. For many, it's just habit, and they don't even think about it. Most can't even tell you either candidates position. They just know the Democrats are Santa Claus, and them mean Repulicans are the Grinch that gonna cut off their money.
There was a very funny but sad video, where blacks were asked if they supported McCain, or Romney's positions, only they were told they were Obama's positions, and they were all like "Yeah, now that's what we be wantin" . Maybe 1 in 30 caught on to what was going on. And a lot of it was on College Campuses where the people should be halfway educated.
A black friend was all freaked out because his job sent him out to some small towns in the area, and was surprised when the white people treated him well. I was like what was your problem, what were you afraid of? It's not like we are in KKK country or something. And he was like well I thought maybe that Ferguson thing might cause me some problems, and I said, that Ferguson thing was hundreds of miles away and folks around here don't pay much attention to that crap from the big cities, why would you think some small town people are going to be riled up at you over it, and he was like well, I guess I've been all riled up about it, and I guess I thought everyone else would be too. He is only riled up because he's been told to be. I just changed the subject as I know he didn't want to hear any facts about it, only what the race pimps were saying. He was mad at me for a month because I said Obama ought to be removed from office because he's done nothing but mess things up. I mean he just got up and walked away. Whatever. I'll never understand some folks thinking or lack there of. He sure ain't anything like this guy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aoZjXDP7LHs (some sensitive folks might want to stop the video when he pauses for a bit about 7 seconds before the end.)
