View Full Version : Another CM9 Initial Range Report

First trip to the range today with my new CM9. I prepped the pistol per the directions contained on this forum, just as I did my CW380 before I took it to the range.
Put a total of 256 rounds through the CM9 today, a combination of WWB, Federal, PMC and Blazer (all ball). It ate everything I fed it with only a couple of hiccups early on (both fail to feed). I have two 6-round, one 7-round, and one 8-round mag. The initial fail to feed was on the second round of the 8-round mag. I am fairly certain it was caused by my not getting the last couple of rounds completely seated into the mag. The spring on that mag is extremely stiff, to the point that the last couple rounds can be difficult to load. Knowing what I know now about the 8-round mag, I think I'd rather just have a second 7-round instead. The second failure to feed was with the 7-round mag. I sanded the followers on the two 6-round mags but didn't touch the 7 or 8 round. I think I'll sand them to see if it helps. I had also installed a Crimson Trace Laserguard prior to going to the range, so many of my rounds downrange and much of my time was spent getting that dialed in.
I disassembled the magazines when I got home and checked to ensure that none of the followers were broken and they all appear to be just fine.
Overall, I am pleased with the pistol. It appears that I got lucky (again) and got one of the good ones because it ran nearly flawlessly. I am confident that it is ready for rotation into my concealed carry arsenal. I also took my CW380 to the range today. The one thing I noticed in comparing the two is that the trigger on the CM9 seems to have a much longer take-up than the trigger on the CW380, to the point that it is having a negative effect on my results. I'm getting much tighter groups with the 380. I understand that it is a DAO pistol but I'm afraid that this long take-up isn't something that I'm going to be able to get used to very easily. The 380 trigger just feels much more natural.
Does anyone know if the take up on the trigger of these pistols can be adjusted, or modified. or if anything else can be done to reduce it?
Thanks in advance.

Luck has nothing to do with getting a good Kahr Pistol. The odds are in your favor. The only modification that I recommend is installing a Wolff 5# striker spring to reduce the trigger pull weight. You can do some minor polishing of the moving parts to smooth things up even more. If you just give it some range time you'll learn to love that trigger. The long pull and reset are safety features of the gun.

P.S. In the Navy I learned that you can always tell a marine, but you can't tell 'em much. :)

With all due respect, Kahr should have redesigned their feed ramp to prevent this from taking place a LONG time ago.
They should not send them out the way they are and then expect their customers to return them to be *fixed*.
The odds of getting a newly manufactured Kahr pistol that doesn't break followers shouldn't be "in your favor", it should be 100%.

In the real world, poop happens. I thought that I had made a mistake once, but I was wrong. There's an eraser on damn near every pencil. In a perfect world GM wouldn't have to recall a million automobiles. Just sayin.

Sorry, this has been going on far too long to simply dismiss it as "poop happens".
It's one thing to be a loyal customer.
It's another to continue to be an apologist for them when you know the issue should have been resolved months and months ago.

Hey, I'm a former Marine and I resemble that remark! I'm beginning to think that jocko has been right about you all along. :)
OP... What a sweet combination of carry guns to have. A reliable Kahr .380 and 9mm.

I couldn't care less what jocko thinks or that he has fired over 200 million rounds through his gun.
Singing the praises of Kahr will not explain away the fact that they are still shipping guns that they know will have to come back to the factory.

Don't feed milbus' ego. The broken follower issue is the only reason he graces us with his presence.

I own a PM9 and a CM9 so don't play that game with me.
Rather than continue to make excuses for Kahr, why don't you tell the class why you believe their customers should have to send their guns back to the factory to be *fixed*...... for the same problem that existed months and months ago.

At what cost? Everything is a trade off. I'm sure Kahr is smarter than you and I and has thought this through carefully. There are plenty of folks out there to make them aware of the issue. I don't think they missed it.
If being loyal means keeping an open mind and looking at the bigger picture.....then call me loyal and proud of it.

Apologies to OP. The follower deal seems to be a drum that some just can't resist banging. Glad your Kahrs are fine and we appreciate the good report. I think you and that new trigger will become mates soon enough.

No worries. Went out to shoot the break-in rounds hoping that I'd have no problems but was prepared for the worst. It was much the same with the CW380, with lots of owners experiencing problems. Mine ran fine. Truth be told when it comes to detail related issues, I'm probably one of the pickiest people I know. I just wish the trigger on the CM9 was a little more like the one on the CW380. I guess the only prescription is to put more rounds through the CM9.

Okay, now you have my attention. Where do I get the springs? Is this something I can do myself or better left to an armorer?
