No not the bad kind. At the outer banks with my dad who will be 82 in a couple weeks. We had a day today of blitx after blitx catching large bluefish. Have not seen my dad for almost two years.
Has been a great time together and one we will talk about and treasure together hopefully for many years to come.

That's great enjoy your time together!
I have surf fished the OBX many times over the years, but never have been there at the right time of year to catch the big blues I hear so much about. Where were you at? The point?

Except for that brief moment in time when I was a member of Uncle Sam's Canoe Club I spent most of my free time hunting and fishing with my dad. I cherished every day that I spent with him. He was my mentor and my best friend.

Those times are precious.
One of my favorites was of chasing jackrabbits across frozen pastures on a South Dakota winter night. Riding with my dad in the back of an old pickup with my uncle driving, trying to keep up with the jackrabbits and still keep them in the headlights. Trying to get a shot off without falling out or shooting the truck was a challenge. Never saw my dad and my uncle laugh so much as that night, especially afterward when recounting the story of bouncing trucks, single shot shotguns and a$$ over teakettle jackrabbits.
Wish I had not lost him before I became involved in bird hunting and bird dog training. He was a real animal lover and never met an animal he did not like or that did not like him. He would have loved my Brittanys.

I am still blessed to have my father around, who turned 82 this past spring. We, as in family and friends, have been hunting for most of my life. In fact, I helped my dad set up his trailer for our upcoming elk hunt that starts this Sat. I'd be up there with him right now but I've got to wait for my wife to get home tomorrow so she can take care of our aging German Shepard and then I'll head on up to camp.

Grotman, would love to see some pics of your outing. I never get tired of seeing photos of family and friends enjoying the great outdoors!

Dad's not a fisherman nor a hunter: he's a tinkerer. While it's not as much fun fixing his lawn mower, I still cherish it.

I just saw a couple of old lawn mowers sitting on the side of the road near me. Let me know if you want them for a Christmas present for your dad.

At one point, dad had 4 Chevettes. He just got it in his head that they were a good deal. I figure maybe the first one was...

Back on track: for those of us blessed to still have their dads around... Love 'em and spend as much time as you can with them.

thanks for the thread Grotman!

Well unfortunately I'm back from my fishing trip. I've been going out there for the past 29 years. Over the years have caught quite a few fish. Some years the weather was cold, windy and raining and very few fish were caught. Some years were the opposite with good weather and great fishing. This year was one of those years. It was great spending the time with my dad and as he will turn 82 next week and I never know which trip will be his last. Hopefully there will be at least a few more but this one will always be one to remember. As the blues were blitzing we would often just look at each other with just "can you believe this" kind of faces.
Beardog.. yes we go out to the point. This year we fished on the south side about a couple hundred yards down from the point.
