Can anyone give me some history of the term 'blunt nose'? I'm thinking of buying this PM9 and would like to know if it's a blunt nose or not.

It is indeed a blunt nose.
Later versions had a bit of taper on the nose of the slide and is a fraction longer.
Many prefer the bluntnose although they are basically the same thing. Cosmetics mostly.

The only difference is that the tapered is a little easier to holster. The blunt nose, however, is Jocko approved.

There are also two different sight dovetails on the "blunt nose." They are "old" and "new." The "new" ones have an extra dimple on the slide. Here is an old thread on it: http://www.kahrtalk.com/archive/index.php/t-6235.html
There are probably more sight choices for the "new" dovetail, although sights are still available for both. http://www.kahr.com/search/old-vs-new-sights.aspx
Love the blunt nose PM9s.
