Bullet Weight

I have a Khar CT9 and a CM9. Any thoughts on what weight bullet works well? I have found that the 147 grain tends to be a handful in the CM and I usually use 115 grain with it. My carry ammo is Hornady Critical Defense for the CM9, the CT is new and I'm still going through the break-in stage with it. For range use, anyone have a suggestion? I no longer reload so any help on brands and weights will be of great help.

I seem to me more accurate with 124gr and 147gr (any brand) in my MK9. But that could be me and my specific gun. I carry 124gr Golden Sabre. I only shoot brass cased ammo in my Kahrs. Usually Blazer or American Eagle or Speer Lawman because that's what's available around here.

It's funny though: lighter loads are more accurate for me out of my K40 (155gr or 165gr).

When I was reloading for rifle years ago I found that the 223 load I was working on was more accurate with the lighter bullet and powder charge. It was with this experience that I settled on a load that was 2800fps. I will try the lighter wt bullets in the Khar and save the 147 gr for the Glock.

My wife and I shoot lots of 115 gr. FMJ through our 9's. I usually buy 1K bulk bullets at a time and use them in my reloads. FMJ bullets will do the job if bullet placement is good but if you carry JHPs for SD, be sure to do some shooting with them just to insure functionality in your gun.

The 124 gr Speer Gold Dot and the 124 gr Hornady XTP are both good defensive loads. I use 115 gr. ball load for range fodder.

In my CM9 124 gr. loads shoot very high. The sights seem to be set for 115 gr. ammo with a 6 o'clock hold at 25 yards.
How do 115's shoot in the CT9?

I shoot fmjs of the same weight as my carry rounds. For 9mm, I'm shooting 124grn fmj for range fodder and carry 124grn Gold Dots. I haven't noticed any changes in point of impact at 7 yards between 115 and 124 out of my PM9. I just put a laser on her so maybe smaller differences will be more apparent.

That being said, 25 yards is quite the distance to train for on a CM9, are you shooting off a rest for that?

I like the HST 147 in my MK9.

The 147 grain round recoil is more of a push than a snap. The projectile while heavier is moving at a lower speed and the recoil occurs over a longer period of time. I find the recoil 147 gr bullet to be very mild.

PM9, MK9, and K9....115 FMJ bulk ammunition (a couple of different common brands) for practice and 124 Gold Dots for carry. None to negligible POI difference at seven yards.

124 is to 9mm is what 230 is to .45ACP. Need a valid reason to deviate, imo.....not sayin' there ain't none.

I'd say that the 124 is to the 9MM what the 200 gr is to the .45 and the 147 is to the 9MM what the 230 gr is to the .45 ACP. All four will get the job done.

It could be viewed that way today. My thought/reference was to the original design bullet weights. Common .45 ACP went lighter. Common 9mm went both ways.
