I've gotten to where I have trouble seeing the front night sight on my Cbob so I started looking around to find a brass bead front to replace it with. I ended up with a huge headache as usual trying to figure out what sight would fit the dove tail, and this is actually why I haven't done it for the last couple years like I wanted.

Well it struck me, why can't I make my own. I thought, can't be that tough and not a big deal.
I talked with a fellow coworker detective who suggested it couldn't be done. Never say it can't be done to bawanna.
Provided just the incentive I needed.

At first I thought it was just a plastic insert but after installing a new front site on another detectives Colt Rail Gun I decided it was time to take on the Cbob.

Found out it was in fact a night sight. Unlike Colt and the others Dan Wesson knows how to install a sight. It was snug but then had a vertical roll pin. Got it out easy without beating it to death and back in without beating it to death.

The Colt took me two hours of dinking around to get it out and the new one installed. And another hour to properly clean it, that detective shows no love to his guns.

Anyhow, all I did was drill out the radioactive toxic waste that didn't glow too good anymore anyhow. I held my breath and I've broken the vials on Beretta's before, another manufacture that must use an 800 ton press to install sights.

Found an appropriate size brass punch, a drop of super glue and a wedge fit, pounded it in, cut it off a tad long and peened the end.

Whala, brass bead. Total working time 15 to 20 minutes.

Pictures momentarily.

Picture makes it look like I drove it in with a waffle face framing hammer but in hand it looks smooth as Shaylins back side.

Can't figure that out.

I'm calling it a success anyhow.

For some reason I first read that as "...that defective shows no love..."

I have no idea how you did that but it's wicked cool. I plan to test that theory soon as it gets dark.

I really like gold beads. At least three of my lever actions, including the Marlin .22 I just bought, have them. As do both of my VangComp barreled 870s.

Springfield Armory does their sight mods that way, as trit/white dot replacements. I'm sure they're functional and appreciate your work, but I've never much cared for the front sight done like that. Properly spherical and imbedded, true beads are/can be quite small, pick up the light exceedingly well and draw the eye to a narrow/real point on target.

Either good work, or you're good at Photoshop. I suspect the former.

Beads....yes beads!

Are those too big or is that Itxi that always says they are too big. Look perfect to me.

^Acceptable 'cause pretty cute and obviously natural, and to a point no penalty for natural. But basically, yeah, too big.

Nice job Col.B! that looks like it came from the factory like that to me, and looks like it should be easy to pick up, my eyes aren't getting any better with age so I will put your mod info in my back pocket for possible future use.

That is VERY interesting. I never considered trying that. I even have a broking brass punch laying around. Now I feel a bit of experimentation coming on...

I'm liking it immensely myself. I just figured out after looking at it closely and the picture is just a reflection, it's not buggered up like is shows, just smooth as a babies backside.
It really works in low light very well too, I was quite pleased.

The best part was learning how my Cbob front sight works for fit and removal and it was all "FREE". Just what I used a broken bent brass punch.

I really like the 24/7 sights both big dot and standard dot but this is working really good for me.
