Born on date is April 2003. Carried a lot but shot a little. Thanks to this forum I learned of the metal magazine catch, which Kahr delivered for free yesterday. Definitely ask for one if you have the plastic catch. I just learned of the barrel recall which I choose to ignore. Gold Dots have been my carry load since day one. 1888rds 115g FMJ. 336rds 124g Gold Dot +P. Yes, I keep records. Nov 22 outing had two failures to lock into battery. Six shooting sessions over 19 months without cleaning had left grease in the barrel lug a paste. Keep these guns clean. For me, no more grease, oil only. One question for the group. Kahr shows an old and a new model recoil guide assemblies. Based on number of coils, I have the old style. Can or should I replace with the new style? This is my first post but feel I have all ready learned a lot from the forum. With the now nonexistent lifetime warranty, this guns a keeper.
I believe Kahr recommends replacing the recoil spring assembly at 1500 rounds. My pistol continued to function flawlessly, so I waited. Right around 2500 rounds I started experiencing FTRB with range ammunition. A new RSA fixed it, and the pistol returned to it's previous level of reliability. I'm sure the type of ammunition and frequency of maintenance plays a big role in determining when wear parts need to be replaced.

I am going to replace the recoil spring assy. My question is can I use the new style or am I limited to the old style?
You can bet that someone will tell you they have put the new RSA in an old gun and it works fine.
That may be true. But, it doesn't answer why Kahr would produce and stock two different recoil spring assemblies, if they didn't need to.
You may get plenty of opinions here, but I would want an answer, straight from the horse's mouth. Contact Kahr.

I would stick with the old assembly- it it's working fine, why change it?
My question is can I use the new style or am I limited to the old style?
That, I cannot answer with any degree of absolute certainty. But, I would agree with AH.74. If Kahr offers two different replacement assemblies, there's probably a reason.

^^^ Good advice. The old PMJ/blunt nose had a different slide vs. the current model. Check the specs. Call Kahr. And make sure you get the correct part.

what u have is the jocko PMJ9 blunt nose PM9 the finest fokking kahr made today. And u must get the old style recoil spring assembly for this gun to function right. Now what I would do is this, go to wolff gunsprings.com and go to the kahr sprngs and u will see recoil (outter) springs listed for the PM9. these are the correct springs for your kahr, Just order a 3 pak of them in the factory weight or the next poundage up, if u so desire. IMO there is no need to replace theentire recoil assembly. A waste of money. I have the PMJ9 blunt nose and I just replace the outter springs about ever 1500-=2K round. Normally the gun will give u an indication as to when to change. Ur kahr has the shorter slide and barrel oever the todays new versoion so there fore it requires the shorter recoil assembly. IMO neither will interchange with reliability either. buy a 3 pak , its cheaper, and whiile ur on that site order a 5# striker for that PMJ9 (one size fits all kahrs, and u can even go further on down and get a 3 pak of 5% more strength againe springs. They are super. Wolffs makes kahrs springs, so ur not cheapening urself any either..service is faster and lower in price..
thatk care of tht blunt nose, its simply the best IMO.
Now what I do think, u need to check out on your PMJ9 is this. take ur recoil assembly out and measure the back flat part of that assembly. if it measures 3/8"
, u have the original outdated assembly. back some year ago kahr changed that 3/8" size to 1/2" size and there fore even though u probalby wont have any issues with it, (as I never in mne when I bought mine). then I wuld say u should buy the new complete unit one time and then after that just reploace the outter springs. Also pleaswe remember the open end of that recoil spring goes towards the front of the slide. i shot my PMJ9 blunt nose for years before I bought the new upgraded version for my pMJ9 as it never gave one isue. I think kahr replaced it to the 1/2" back then to prevent any possability of the spring riding over that flat peace. Just my guess..
Ican also tell u that u have the polmer/metal magazine release in that gun. It is polymer made with metal insertin it, so u can't wear that thing out but again kahr in later years went to anall metal MIM mag release..My gues was this ws a cost saving measure, as the polymer with the metal insert was more costly to make as it was a two+ stage process. They were very good but again kahr made the change, and IMO if ur gun is ok, then IF IT AIN'T BROKE DONT FOKK WITH IT. Most always thought iut was just a polymer5 mag release and they were dead wrong..

Jocko,
Is the recoil spring listed for the PM9 on Wolff's site the same for the CM9?

doesn't say cm9 but the same spring is now used (outter spirng). Ur cm9 assembly is the new version and it is .020 longer than the old PMJ0 blunt nose version. Kahr used to have a more coil count in the cm9 and PM9 new stye slides but in the past year or so they have went back to the one size fits all in the cm9 and PM9 ..So I guess what I a saying is so to not confuse, just order the wolffs outter recoil springs that say for the PM9 and ur good to go.
Wolffs does not make the complete recoul assembly for the cm9, PM9.
when u order this outter sprg it willcome also with the inter spring in the package, I would say just leave it alone, , not worth changing, let alone the hassle. I have never changed my inner spring since day one. The outter one takes most all the brunt..

So I guess I have the old old style 3/8" vs the new old style 1/2" recoil guide assy. I will order a replacement from Kahr, taking care not to order the new style. The all steel mag catch may have been a cost saving measure, but I prefer the feel. Much better retention. I will keep the original part for posterity. Probably have not been produced for years. I have been wondering about the j in pmj9. I only know the gun as a pm9. What's up with the j?
