Anyone have experience or thoughts on this gun? I stumbled across one NIB at yesterday's gun show but not knowing anything/much/enough about it I chose not to buy. Felt good in my hand and the configuration of basic, original thumb and grip safeties plus the gutter sights made it intriguing for carry.

I've only read good things about the New Agent and Defender as far as reliability. Those trench sites on the NA are odd, and limit the gun to point shooting. I wouldn't pay that much for such a niche weapon, but if money was no object it should be a nice light compact 1911.

Thanks, John. I could have picked it up for $750. One hell of a lot cheaper than any other compact lw 9mm 1911 pattern pistol I've been considering, all of which would need some kind of work to get to where I want. Purpose is defensive carry and after all these years short range point shooting a 1911 is no problem. Being all black with slim grips the New Agent would eliminate the need for refinish/any grip replacement. If I decided I wanted or needed sights I'd just put a set of something I really want on it and still be way ahead money wise. Didn't realize until I got home and looked it up what the MSRP was and that the 9mm version's no longer in production.. Shoulda bought it, I guess, and most likely will if it's still on the table next gun show, the weekend after Christmas.

I to have read, and heard nothing but good things about the Agent................those sights though, are atrocious at best..................too much denaro for a point and shoot, for me................

A coworker has one and loves it, he had a local smith add traditional night sites to it. Not sure how much that cost him. You could always go with a laser grip too.

Not into lasers. If I were to put sights on one they would be Novak or Novak style black rear with a brass or gold front bead.

I wonder if a Defender slide fits, might be cheaper than machining, if it's available.

Don't think it worth the money and effort. Machining a slide costs maybe $100 locally. Novak will cut it and fit sights for $120 plus parts. Also the Defender slide is finished in stainless...not what I want.

Note to self: next time I pass on a deal at a gun show.....at least get the seller's card. :)

That's not bad. Except now I hate you because it makes me want to buy a New Agent to do that with.

Yeah...and I never thought to. Stupid of me. Seller's a no store front dealer who's been doing business in the same spot at the show for mebbe 20 years. I've bought from him a couple few times in the past but not for a long while and I now gots no idea where to find him in between shows

Sometimes whoever puts on the show can hook you up if you describe the guy and where he was at on the floor.

It's worked for me in the past.

Leonard was missing from the show the weekend after Christmas. No real surprise as many other regulars with a bit of a drive were, also. He was there today, tho, and the New Agent was still on his table...so I bought it. As usual with him I didn't quibble over price so with a cash deal he "ate" the tax and CBI background check fee and threw in a (my favorite) Wilson Tactical thumb safety without my asking. So far, just handling it, I really, really like it. Educated trigger finger tells me it breaks clean at about 5# which is where I prefer it for a defense carry gun 1911....whatever, it's not gonna need any trigger work. A first on a Colt for me. We'll see how those gutter sights work out on the range but just feeling the gun out I'm suspecting I/it may not need more. Happier than a favorite sheep in jocko's barnyard at the moment I am.

a Colt New Agent in 9mm? what, they made 4 of them? the great minds at Colt never got 9mm. I've looked at the NA before and to me, it's almost perfect (9mm makes it more perfect). the NA is not and never will be a range/target gun, it's strictly for business. I can see the target, but sights are blurry, even big blinking ones. I don't need sights and for business, sights would just slow me down, I want to close the deal real fast. the only thing I'd do to a NA is paint the gutter white to aid in pointing and leveling the gun. (for showing off at the range, just put a laser on it.)

Hey, those be my old work buddies runnin' them choppers! And they're actually dark, IR detection suppressive green.

Colt gave me promo light windbreaker when I bought one of their first Defenders, or whatever they were called then, back in the mid/late 90s. No longer have the pistol but that excellent lightweight jacket is still in daily cold weather use.
