It's been 30 years since I owned a wheel gun, and I never owned a .38 Special/.357 before....But I've been wanting one.
Made a bid on a S&W Model 19-4, with box and stuff on GB and won. Just picked it up from my FFL today...
Very nice...hope to get to the range in the next few days...already ordered and received all the reloading stuff...

Looks very nice. My first handgun was a Model 19 and I still have it and intend to keep it. It is in my opinion a classic. I also have the wood grips but don't use them. I use Pachmayrs.

Nice pick-up congrats! The .357 is a great all around do it all gun and the M19 is a nice size and weight. I have my Dads 19 with the 6" barrel he sent it back to S&W for a refinish/blueing after carry it for many years. It has not been fired since so it looks just like new.

Congratulations!

My dad passed his 19-4 made in 1979 to me earlier this year. I put a set of Hogue grooved grips on it and also have the Pachmayr rubber grips that came on it when he bought it used in 1980. I think the wood grips look great and I plan to buy a set soon.

Those pinned-barrel Smiths are beautiful wheelguns. I've never had a 19, but have bought a Model 10, a 13, a 34, a 37, a 63, and a 29. Still have the last three after giving the others away.

Excellent! My copy of that, a mid '70s high polish blue with combat hammer/trigger/action work by S&W's custom shop I've had since '76 or '77, is one of my never part with guns.

I used to have a Model 19 just like that except mine had a 6" barrel. Wish I still had it, but I sold it one time when money was tight.

Congratulations. Mirror image of my Mod 19 6" barrel bought in 1976. The .357 S&W 4" barrel was made famous by Bill Jordan Texas Ranger in his book " No Second Place Winner".

My 357's are Colt Python, King Cobra and a S&W 586 classic.
All are like the grills on old cars.... a work of art. Cobra is NIB never been shot, though.

I agree that the Python is a work of art (love the hammer on them).

I went with Dan Wessons on my 357's, and a 686 S$W. The pistol pack is pristine, I've not shot it, the guy before me hadn't shot it, and I don't know if the original owner shot it. it's a 99% condition gun if there ever was one.

Greg,
A bright Stainless King Cobra is beautifully made as well, reminds me of this:

I have a Model 15 from the 70's that my dad passed down to me. Looks exactly the same, just no .357s for it. :) It's the most accurate handgun I've ever fired.

That's the Combat Masterpiece, IIRC. Those are very purdy and really smooth. My brother has one from 1958.

Pretty sure he regrets giving it to me now. :) I don't have any good pictures or I'd post one.

The .38 Special S&W Model 15 Combat Masterpiece w/4" barrel was the first handgun I ever owned owned and I still have it today. At the time, I was looking for a model 19 but because they were in such demand by LEO, I settled for my Model 15. I would still like to have a Model 19 but the 90% ones are getting hard to find and expensive to boot. They are indeed, beautiful revolvers.

How can you not love a gun named the "Combat Masterpiece" -- mine is a model 67-1, the stainless version.

The first revolver I ever shot, well, actually the second, was a 19-4 and it was the revolver that lured me into the revolver realm. Before that I had no use for revolvers. They were obsolete as far as I was concerned. I shot the 19-4 at the range while there with a friend. He later traded the gun to my LGS and I bought it. Then another and another and another revolver. I have five right now. Initially I bought S&W revolvers of all shapes and descriptions, but now have transitioned to Dan Wesson revolvers. You'll really love it.

As I recall the 19-4, while capable of .357magnum, really shouldn't have a steady diet. Stick with .38special or +P.

I had it at the range again this morning, second time out with it, and dang, if I don't enjoy shooting the heck out of this thing. It was very happy with some low powered 38 special hand loads (148 lead DEWCs over a little Green Dot). I did shoot a couple of cylinders of .357, but it wasn't much fun. I can defiantly see increasing my revolver numbers in the future...

Here is a pic of my baby, a Dan Wesson Model 15-2 Pistol Pack. With 8, 6, 4 and 2 inch barrels, plus some different colored sight inserts. Only thing missing was the sew on patch that the seller couldn't locate. I've not fired it, the prior owner hadn't fired it, and I don't know if the original owner fired it or not, if so, he only put a few rounds through it. It's a shame people are buying these, then parting them out to make a profit, by auctioning off the individual barrels. The 2 and 4 inch are getting outrageous. and will pay most of the cost of the Pistol Pack.

geez, your making me (revolver) crazy! I'm always thinking about another carry gun, but what I really need is a range cannon, something I can blow the middle of the target out and look like I can see and shoot.
for several reasons I'm thinking 6" barrel GP100.

Very nice! I have a couple of Dan Wesson revolvers (.22 & .357) and like them quite a bit.
Here's my Ruger Six pack (well, there's only three of them, but they are "Sixes": two Security Sixes and a Speed Six):D

The barrels are pretty easy to swap out on the Dan Wessons, there is a nut that you use a special tool to remove the lets you slip off the barrel shroud, then you unscrew the barrel from the frame, then you screw in the new barrel, and use a feeler gauge to set it .006" from the cylinder (factory spec), some prefer .004 or .005. But sometimes that causes problems with cylinder rotation if you don't wipe down the end of the cylinder regularly.

As far as the 6" barrels, I have those on my S&W 629, and 686 plus. Sometimes I wish I'd went with the 4" barrel on the 686, but I wanted it to match the 629. That's what I like about the Pistol Pack, you can install whatever length you want from 2 to 8 inches. I wish it wasn't such a collectors item because I'd shoot it if it wasn't. Right now with the condition it's in, it is appreciating better than most of my other investments. I think it would rate at least 95% or better. It really does look brand new.

I bought two Dan Wesson pistol packs back in '79 or '80. New and a really good deal for both. I'd intended to resell one from the beginning but ended up selling off both. Nice pieces of work and I liked the concept. But they never would have been working guns for me and at the time I couldn't afford to keep safe queens no matter how nice.
