View Full Version : The color concern........ not all guns are stainless or blued anymore

So what do you fine folks think about the color options of guns available today?

The first gun not blued or stainless I purchased was a Sig Mosquito w/ Purple metallic frame
for my daughter - her favorite color - she loves it and believe it or not it has performed
absolutely flawless for 1500+ rounds

Next was a 1911 in FDE for my son (both kids....... are adults now)

Kahr (and MANY others) have a few current offerings outside the standard black or stainless
Purple, Robin Eggshell Blue, and Burnt Bronze

so - what's too much (yes there is too much)- or just enough

No, never! Traditional is fine with me when it comes to most things.

I'm a Ford man. You can have any color you want as long as it's black.

I think they look pretty nice. Depending of course of the taste of the owner. Click HERE (https://www.google.com/search?q=cerakote+kahr&num=50&newwindow=1&safe=off&espv=2&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=2X6PVKXREKjasASkg4KoDQ&ved=0CCYQsAQ&biw=1280&bih=653) for lots of examples.

The process is great for restoration also. Here are a couple BEFORE (http://www.greendragonguns.com/s/cc_images/cache_935168497.jpg)and AFTER (http://www.greendragonguns.com/s/cc_images/cache_935168498.jpg) pics. (sorry, I'm still not authorized to post attachments)

I've bought my wife a Charter Arms Santa Fe Blue .38 and a purple Ruger SR22. I put OD green furniture on my AR and am looking at a Sig in FDE. Three years ago I wouldn't have even thought twice about it.

It's all about marketing. If colors sell more guns, I'm all for it.

I like color to a degree. I'm not a fan of the toy gun look though. I was considering getting my slide on my cw9 cerakoted like a gun metal gray along with the slide stop and trigger ceraketed black. Don't know if I'll ever do it though. Paying $100 for a finish that will ware off doesn't sound cool. Stainless works great for edc gun. My M&P9 already has some serious ware on the finish and it isn't hardly ever carried.

My stainless slide on my cw9 does have scratches where my crossbreed rubbed the top of the slide. Kinda annoying.

It makes people like my wife more interested in a firearm. She enjoys shooting my Ruger 10/22, but doesn't have a lot of desire to have her own....until she saw the new Pink special edition Ruger is doing. In that regard I think it's a great trend. It makes people who may not have really wanted a gun, want one, because it feels more personal for them.

I just stick with good old stainless or black personally, and I generally only get blued if I cant find stainless. I am still not all that sold on the painted finishes yet, I understand they are quite durable but they do eventually wear off... gun blue I can touch up myself and stainless you can just bead blast or polish again if it starts looking rough. as far as the the polymer frame, I get whatever color is cheapest at the time. any money saved buys more ammo or a P-mag or two :D

I really just dont like the idea of sending my old gun in for a paint job like an old car lol

Basic Black, Blueing, SS for me. If folks want funkadelic colors so be it. Just not for me.

Like OD Green and Tan as alternatives but Nickel and Stainless are still tops.
As always....beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

About the only thing other than blued or stainless that remotely blows my dress up is color case hardening. That blows my dress up clean around my neck.

If it pleases folks, that's a good thing.
