View Full Version : soon to be a K9 owner
Just put a used K9 on layaway at my local gun store, had less than 300 rounds put through it.....really felt great in the hand, liked the trigger, and the size was perfect (for me) - will be my edc ccw handgun. Can't wait to get it out to the range. What holsters do you guys recommend? Any common K9 "quirks" I should know about?

If you're like me, and all the other people I know with a K9, you're going to LOVE the thing. Mine has never had a quirk, issue, etc. I got it brand new, put some nice wood grips on it, and it has shot 100% since day one. I use a cross breed, and couldn't be happier with it. Holds the gun nicely, is comfortable, and hides it really really well. Enjoy your new purchase!
How many rounds do people have through their K9's?

Mine was used so I don't have a round count.

Congratulations. I am waiting on a K9 also. Had a K9 years ago, and it is the only gun I regret selling.

I have about 500 rounds through mine. It is my favorite of all of my handguns. It would be the last handgun I would part with.
I've never had a bit of trouble with it.

One quirk that all Kahrs have is that you might get used to the trigger and like it better than all other triggers. It's a real problem.

The only "quirky" thing about the K9 is the takedown process, which is different from other models, and has a short learning curve. It can be somewhat frustrating at first. Check out forum topics here and youtube videos to help you gain tips and info. Some people use a tool to hold the slide in the right spot... Kahr even sells one.

What makes it different than other models? I watched the video on the Kahr site and it looks that same as the other models?

I perswonally think the k9 TAKE DOWN PROCEDCURE is the best made. That slide lock "spring" set up is damn near fool proof. I think owners hve to realize that slide stops are mnot made to just fall out of the gun either. I have zero issues with my K9 slide stop removal "once u learn". I sure like it 100% better than the more flimsy polymer slide stop levers. One thing is for sure in the K series slide stop lever, IS UR NOT GONNA BEND THAT SPRING.

300 rounds sounds very low but if jso u got a dandy. IMO u canb't tell a K9 that has 10K rounds through it from one that has 300. I have no idea how many rounds my used K9 NYPD model had in it before I bought it, but Ihave put about 6K through it since I have bought it and it has been flawless. to us kahr K9 owners this has been the diamond i the ruff that still so many gun owners are unaware is even out there.. Just sayin

The K9 slide stop/ barrel pin is held in place by a more beefy spring found on the inside right of the frame. Other Kahrs hold this piece with a less substantial spring on the left outside of the frame. Different spring, different location. Other models can be taken down by pushing the pin out with your finger but that is much harder, if indeed possible to do, with a K9.
After many years, I still need a "tool" to push the pin out of my K9. The "tool" I use is a mag base. Once the slide is lined up correctly I flip a mag around, place the base against the pin and push... hard. Works for me.
