View Full Version : Dirty gun causing accuracy issues?

Ok, so I was really negligent and lazy, and haven't cleaned my gun in probably 3 range sessions, at least 6 months. I usually hear about dirty guns giving function issues, but I don't think it caused any function problems. I did have some issues with some cheap ZQI ammo I got from Walmart. It was long OAL, which caused a few failure to feeds, and it seemed to have hard primers(although that could be crud in the striker channel). I had to do double strikes with several. It had no trouble with the Federal or Blazer ammo I put through it.

The biggest concern, though, is both my wife and I were all over the place with it, if it hadn't been a 2'x3' five bull target, we wouldn't even have been on the paper. Neither of us are crack shots, but we did MUCH better with the M&P we had rented. So can a dirty gun be inaccurate?

Honestly, I don't know for sure I never let them get that dirty...... but it is highly likely, and It will definitely affect the action timing.

Just for the record, I did clean it tonight, and got a disgusting amount of crud out of it

you might want to invest into a small parts washer if you plan on doing this regularly :p
would save you some time anyways :D

:D Good one, lol. No, I'm gonna treat my gun better going forward. Now to get back to the range ASAP and figure out if that was the problem...

Being all over the paper can usually be traced to poor trigger control and/or a poor grip.

I would generally agree, but we both did equally poorly with the CM9 (and much worse than usual for me), and equally better with the M&P.

My CM9 is taking a bit of getting used too. The long trigger pull in a small pistol was resulting in low left with wide groups. Over time I've gotten more used to the trigger and the groups have improved. It's still no where near where my Glocks hit but still not bad.
