View Full Version : Got my first Kahr yesterday

Ordered it from Buds last week and picked it up from my local FFL yesterday. It wasn't as dirty as some other brand new guns I've bought but it sure was oily. It had some weird gritty stuff on it as well but it wiped off easily.
I field stripped it (along with disassembling the slide), wiped everything down and scrubbed off some other gunk from the rails and got it all oiled up. It felt much smoother after that.
Took it out on my lunch break today and put 181 rounds through it. 31 were handloaded 124gr Gold Dots, the rest were hand loaded 124gr Berrys hollow points. Here are the loads over my chronograph:
124gr Gold Dots - 31 rounds
Hi - 1159 fps Lo - 1056 fps Av - 1112 fps
124gr Berrys hollowpoints - 35 rounds
Hi - 927 fps Lo - 849 fps Av - 893 fps
It is a very accurate pistol if I do my part but I really need to work on trigger control because I'm so used to the light pull and sweet break of my M&P 9 with Apex sear and striker block.

Outstanding. Sounds like you went about it all right and everything went good. I figure it's good odds it's a 9 but which model. Let me guess, hmmm, I'm gonna run with the PM but for some reason the CW is in my mind also. Bud's hasn't had PM's for quite a spell. Ok I'm going with CW.
Glad ya found us, keep us posted on your bonding process. You'll get better and better with that trigger as you get more accustomed to it.
Welcome.

Wow, I completely forgot to put that it's a CW9 :blushing:
I handled a PM45 at one of the local shops that had a few hundred rounds through it and the trigger was extremely smooth and helped me make the decision to get the CW9.

My Dad has a CW40 and that also helped influence my purchase. I don't care for the .40, especially in these pistols but the 9 is just right :)

Truth be told I thought they already had, I must have got some bad information. With this glowing welcome to BadAndy though I think they will put you in charge of new member recruiting and social planning. Hint, lets party! By the way I looked into my crystal ball and danged if there ain't another new gun in your future. It was a bit cloudy so can't say for sure it was a Kahr or not but a new bang device is forthcoming! Where did that come from????? Something you need to share with the mere mortals here?
BadAndy, I'm with ya on the 40, little too much boom for the tupperwares this size, the 9 is just right. I have a K40 and it bucks a bit even with a trip to MagnaPort. More comfy shooting my PM45 and wider bullets too.

Congratulations on the CW9. I have more than 500 rounds through mine. You have a great carry pistol. Shoot safe!

the more you shoot it, the more you will like it....I would suggest doing a lot of dry fire practice. It will really make a difference for you.
Kahr is very clear in their information section that dry firing the pistol ( as they state, make sure the chamber is empty) will not harm the pistol at all..
It really does smooth out the trigger.

Thanks for the welcome guys!
Links, thanks for the tip. I usually don't bother reading owners manuals but it's good to know that it's safe to dry fire.

Kahr is one flavor of guns where it's a good idea to read the manual. Go to the Kahr Tech section and read Jocko's proper prep or your new kahr and there's also a real cool lube chart in that section too.
Little stuff like releasing the slide with the stop lever rather than slingshoting. I've never done that with any other gun but if your Kahr is not feeding that top round slingshoting it will likely feed fine with the lever.
They seem to get better at racking one in after thing break in a bit and some are fine out of the box, I sometimes think it's how you rack too.
Take a few minutes and read the manual and those tech post. Might save some grief in the future.

Congratulations Roger, when it arrives we expect to hear your first impressions and a full range report.Good shooting!!
Yea I would read the Kahr manual throughly. Unlike most pistols, Kahrs are real thourghbreads, and as such are very tight, compact with strong springs by design to improve function. Kahrs have tight tolerances and here is why I feel many people set them selves up for problems, especially during breakin.
Since they don't have a safety, clear the weapon and double check visually to insure she is unloaded, then dry fire away.

Absolutely! May not be for about 3 weeks, but I very much appreciate your tips and info. Glad to be a member here and soon to be fellow Kahr owner. :yo:

There are links to owners manuals on this site. You can read, memorize and recite them while you wait. There may be a test.
You gotta wait 3 weeks? Medication may be required to ease your waiting pains. 3 weeks? That's awful.
