hey guys, does anyone here pocket carry a j frame or a taurus model 85 or similar weapon? i do from time to time wardrobe permitting, i am just curious how much does the weapon print. in all the forums i never see anyone describe their body type. i am 5'8" 215lbs, kind of an athletic build but with a belly. i wear pants that fit, in other words not really loose but not too snug either, atleast most of the time.... they all are now due to the holidays.... ha ha. anyway any info would be appreciated. mine prints, you can tell i have a bulge in my pocket but due to my galco pocket holster you really can't tell what it is. i just wonder how many of you carry like this and how much of a bulge would you guys consider acceptable. ok ima stop there post is kinda sounding wierd now.

I usually carry IWB, but will pocket carry on occasion. With the proliferation of personal electronic devices, I think it's an acceptable mode of carry with a holster that breaks up the gun's outline. For quick trips like checking the mail, getting gas, walking the dogs most any decent pocket holster will suffice. For carry where I'm more likely to bee around people for an extended period, I prefer a wallet type holster (something along the lines of the side guard holster at the bottom of this page (http://sideguardholsters.com/gunmodels/J-frame-holsters.htm)).
I also prefer my older Taurus 85, older J frames, or Charter Arms Undercover to the current Magnum J frames for this style carry.

I've been known to carry a revolver in a coat pocket, but never in a pants pocket.

I carried an 85 for over a year but most pocket carry was in cargo shorts. I think with the right holster it is doable with looser pants. I have thick legs so to do front pocket carry requires some pretty loose pants with deep pockets.

Holy cow, another charter arms compact revolver owner! You don't see many these days. I still love my detective special - it was the very first gun I bought myself, as self-protection living in the inner-east side of Columbus back in the early 90s. Outstanding guns for the money.

Not an 85, but a M380 that I carry in a duct tape holster I made last winter. I've also been carrying a 85 View in a Blackhawk! size 4 pocket holster until I can press a kydex holster for it. In general I think a small revolver prints more than a small semi-auto, but the right holster can make a huge difference with printing.

Front pocket carry a j frame all the time. I find that it really doesnt print "gun" bad because the barrel is so thin. About the only thick part is the cylinder. Its easy to carry and very light. For me the biggest importance for the holster is to keep the gun upright in my pocket.

I also front pocket carry a 642 J frame often enough to be called an EDC gun. I carry it in a super thin leather pocket holster and yes it will print a bit in tighter jeans...
So what? In all the time I have been pocket carrying (the 642 or the P380) I have never had anyone notice or say a negative word.
Just do it! If you are not worried about carrying it, I promise the rest of the world won't notice or worry about it either.
Have a good one.

I probably worry to much about it. In all honesty I have never paid any attention to folks pockets. I can only imagine not many people do.

I carry an S&W 642 in the pocket. 5'8" 250 lbs, loose fit khakis, jeans, pleated dockers, cargoes, wool dress slacks. Nobody ever notices. Similar size to the Taurus snubby but lighter. You eventually will stop noticing that lump. As self conscious as you feel, nobody else ever notices it. That's been my experience.

I've got one of the new(er) Model 85s. I use a sticky holster to jacket pocket carry in the winter. In the fall/spring, I use a Don Hume JIT slide on the belt.
It can be pocket carried with the right holster.

S&W 342 ti (11.0 oz Empty - 13.5 oz Loaded with 135 gr Speer GDHP Short Barrel 38 +P).
Pocket carry daily in a DeSantis Nemesis.
It's so light I forget I'm carrying and is virtually invisible.
Makes for a great backup gun.
I've often felt that drawing a backup can be faster than re-loading a primary.:)
