Had a separate thread regarding the Blemished model K9. Picked it up yesterday. Inspected it at the gun store to make sure no issues. Bud's Gun shop online from where the gun was delivered to the LGS apparently will let you reject it at their expense of shipping it back to them, if there is an issue. It came with 3 magazines, 2-7 rounders and an 8 rounder, as well as a lockable case. Everything looked fine, and I could not see any specific "blemish". I did notice that the slide had a slight overhang over the frame at the rear; but thought nothing of it (my MK9 is the opposite where the frame is out past the slide at the rear). Didn't take the slide off due to the difficulty involved. Gratefully accepted the K9, paid my $15.00 transfer fee and was on my way with my new K9 which I had been able to determine through Kahr that it had a born-on date of June 2014.
Cleaned it and took it out to the range. Temperature was 5 degrees, but the sun was out, and I had to try it out (couldn't wait, just like a kid). Ran 100 rounds through it. The first 50 were Fiocchi and they ran without a hitch. The second 50 were Blazer Brass and all ran perfectly; except one at around 83 or so rounds into the break-in. I attribute it to either poor grip and/or just simple break-in. ( I had racked the slide a few times before taking the K9 out).
Took it home and cleaned it as I was drooling over it, but then I noticed a slight disturbance of the metal at the slide stop opening (square one) on the frame. I also noticed a couple of corresponding slight disturbances on the front of the slide where the recoil spring fits, but on the outside. I thought and hoped it was just normal wear that would not progress any further. I took off the grip and inspected the entire pistol and saw no other possible issues, to my knowledge.
Had to take it out again today, again in 5 degree temperature. Ran 100 rounds of Federal Champion and all ran perfectly. I had placed blue marker on the slight disturbances of metal in the areas described above. There was no removal at all of blue where the slide stop area was, so I doubt that disturbance is going to get worse. As far as the other 2 spots, the blue was smeared from oil; but upon close inspection, they did not seem to progress, so I doubt those are going to get worse.
Interestingly, I was expecting to find the "B" mark for "blemished" on the trigger guard as described in other Karh Talk threads. I did not. The "B", actually 2 of them (one was partial) was located inside the slide, between the muzzle and the slide opening, where the barrel hood rides. I wonder if the 2 disturbances on the slide, or the one at the slide stop opening mentioned above were the "blemishes", and I did not notice them upon initial inspection, just don't know.
I am very pleased with the K9. Only one failure to feed during the 200 round break-in. It was extremely accurate insofar as putting the shots in a small group; however, I have to get used to the tritium sights since my groups were low. It is a beautiful pistol. What's not to love?
