Just got this email from Ruger. I likey!
The first thing I checked was if they used a ramped barrel, no but they put a titanium feed ramp in it instead, nice.

I've looked over and handled these at gun shows. They seem pretty nice. If I needed something in this class, I'd consider it.

I've shot the original and liked it a lot. Yet I've never felt the call to buy one. Now I'm afraid the call is sounding louder... Thanks BEARDOG for the post . No really ;).

I'm not getting one. Quinn didn't call it, "a dandy little pistol." It's a sign that he hates it.
Just kidding, he made me want one even more.

A new Colt Single Action Army in .357 Magnum is first on my bucket list,
followed by a Colt 1991A1 .45,
a Kahr CW9,
a North American .22 Magnum Sidewinder,
a Springfield Armory M1A Scout,
a Ruger GP100,
and then another Colt SAA, but in .45 Colt.

My preferred 45 ACP 1911 configuration is Al frame, short grip, 3.5 bull barrel with low ride extended thumb safety, beaver tail, flat msm housing with a bit of bottom rounding on the housing and frame, thin grip panels, and a short trigger. I also prefer all black. I shoot this combination/style comfortably and quite well. The Ruger, much as I like their guns, comes up short on two unfixable points....barrel length and the bushing configuration. Also, to my mind, the Springer RO Compact would be a better choice in a four inch. But, of course, that's just me.

I'm with ya, I'd dig a Colt SAA but I'd have to have 45 Colt. 357 actually makes better sense for the ammo situation but an SAA just needs to be 45 to be politically correct. I got some clones but not a real Honest to wagon wheel Colt.

My personal stainless Ruger SR1911 CMD is a terrific pistol. It really is better than the sum of its parts -- very acurate and reliable, and everyone raves about the trigger. It is so good that I am not sure that I would be tempted by the "lightweight" just to save 6 ounces. On the other hand, if the -A works as well as my SS version, it would be hard to pass up.

LOL -- I have one sized and configured like that, a Citadel that I added Crimson Trace laser grips to. Only I prefer a mid or long trigger due to hand size. I keep it as a nightstand gun.
If it also has the series 70 trigger like the standard SR1911 I will have to check one out.

Titanium. Seems like it might gall. Maybe not.

I handled one of these today. Pricetag = $707. It was nice. For only 6 ounces different, it felt much lighter than that. I'd buy one but I have other 1911's I already don't shoot. :o

It's always best to wait a year on any new gun or model. You don't want to be a beta tester for a gun company.

The guys on the Colt forum say the new 3rd Generation SAA revolvers being built the past few years are as good a quality fit & finish as Colt has ever done, unlike the "iffy" quality control of the mid 1980s to early 1990s.
But they are being produced in limited quantities and are as scarce as an honest politician.
I'm on a couple waiting or "notification" lists, but dunno if that will help. Ordering one from the Colt Custom Shop through a dealer means an 18 month or two year wait.

Dad's Colt is a lightweight Commander and the aluminum ramp scars easily, especially from the blade type stock mag follower. I bought one that has a dropped front piece to keep the top from sliding forward into the ramp. The titanium would be a good improvement over aluminum alloy.

It's a personal thing, but I can't stand 1911s that are all "tacticool" like this. Give me plain stainless or blue, vertical serrations and a lowered ejection port and I'm set.
