S&w m&p 10

Does anyone have a S&W M&P 10? If so how's it doing. Reviews seem good.

I have been looking for 2 years for a .308 AR type and found one on deep discount and had to have it. Figured i could get most of my money back if it didn't work out. Actually that's a lie. I'd trade it for something else. :rolleyes:

Nope, sorry. The relatively new .308 rifle. You're not the first one to think that initally.

I bought a S&W M&P AR15 Sport earlier last year ($579 + $5.99 shipping) from GaG. If that little basic AR is any indication of the build quality for the M&P 10, then it should be a pretty darn nice .308. Recently added a Magpul handguard:

M&P 10 is an excellent rifle. Only thing that bothered me was the recoil made it not as enjoyable to shoot as the AR 15's.

Bought a M&P AR15 Sport just like Armybrats back in June...It has maybe 1500 rounds so far through it of all kinds of ammo without a single problem of any kind....Light weight and fun to shoot, doesn't have all the bells and whistles but I didn't want all that with my first AR so I'm really liking it....A .308 would be nice but with far more recoil and way more expensive ammo I think the AR15 is the better way to go at least for me but if you want a AR10 .308 then the S&W M&P 10 should be a fine rifle at a good price....Good luck....

Im not big on bells and whistles either. I like them with stock, barrel, sights (or simple scope if shooting farther than i can see), and bullets. But i do like my rifle to hit what im shooting at. M1A took some tweaking to get it there but i learned a lot. Worth it in the end i guess.

Was watching the Sportsman Channel "Guns & Gear" last night and they did a segment on the new Ruger SR762 rifle and this thing looks like a winner....Not sure of the retail price but it should be reasonable and like all Ruger firearms you get great customer support and a quality product.....On the show last night they had one with a scope hitting a 700 yard target every time from a 16 inch sporter barrel....It is piston operated with easy click adjustable gas positions for the piston depending on ammo type for reliability....Might be worth a look if you are interested in a .308 AR platform rifle....

I love Rugers & have several including a Ranch Rifle, but have heard that their new AR style rifles have some proprietary parts & magazines that are not interchangeable with the other brands. That's something to think about - and they are right proud of their prices for the Mini 14 mags, I might add. (bought 8 of the factory 20 rounders @ the "cheap price of $27 each).

I've been researching the Zastava PAP (semi-auto) M77. An AK based .308 from the Zastava plant in Serbia. They can be had for around $520. If I had the $$ I'd be looking at an FN-FAL type weapon in Semi-Auto, or possibly for a little less $, the Springfield M1A. The FN-FAL is my first choice though if money was no object, a well proven battle rifle. The HK .308's would be in the hunt too.
I'm looking at the Zastava, it being about the about the most I could afford for a semi in .308. Reviewers seem to like it. Main gripe is it only comes with one 10 round mag, but they show how to modify M1A mags to work in it, and some company is supposed to be working on higher capacity mags for the M77. It's not quite as accurate, as the other semi-autos, but is accurate enough for the job. Think 2-4 inch groups at 150 yards, vs 1-2" groups.
I hate having to compromise like that, but money is tight. My main 308 battle rifle now, is an Indian Ishapore, built as a .308, not a .303 conversion, based on the SMLE. Its big and heavy, with the full length wood stock. The mag holds 10 or 11. That's one I wouldn't mind "bubbaizing" and remove some wood, or else get one of those lightweight drop in stocks for the SMLE. I guess they require a bit of work for the Ishapore models, but If I could remove a few pounds, it would be well worth it. I also have an Israeli modified KAR-98 converted to .308, and parkerized, that is a great shooter, and much lighter, and a Spanish Mauser with just 2 locking lugs, that has been converted to .308. I hear conflicting reports on that rifle, some say don't shoot full powered factory loads through it, others say it's fine, just stay away from high powered ammo like Buffalo Bore. They say if you reload, then reloading to .300 Savage specs is a good way to have a safe round. Some company has a kit that changes the chamber to accept 7.62x39, so that's another option. I just hate to have it around, and be leery of shooting it.
