Hello people. I'm new here. I Recently picked up a brand new ct9 from cabelas. It's the first kahr i've owned or shot. I think I overpaid a little but it came with 2 mags and a ding dong holster. Ok anyway the gun is really nice. The polymer is a little sloppy in some areas but it is a sweet shooter. I put 300 rounds through is without any problems but when I took the slide off the polymer rails looke like they are taking quite a whoopin. Especially on top also the gun smelled like burning rubber while shooting it. I assume from the friction with the slide on the polymer rails. Is this all ok? How long will this last with those polymer rails. I imagine they are going to get worn down pretty bad when shooting this gun. Is this like a gun you shoot a few times then it's finished? I have a couple other poly guns but the slide doesn't ride on poly rails like my kahr does. so what do ya think? I really like the gun btw. Thanks in advance.

The polymer rails are not there as a main structural design feature, but rather the metal rails on front and rear of the frame are what the slide "rides" when shooting. The polymer may wear a bit in breaking in but this will abate. After your 300 rounds it is probably as worn as it will get. I do not know the life of a Kahr but it is certainly a long time. Quality materials are used and tens of thousands of rounds can be expected with normal and routine maintenance. Go enjoy your Kahr without worry.

The Burnt rubber odder is most likely the ammo you are using as some do smell like that. Clean up your plastic "rails " use to help assemble your pistol as they serve NO purpose in control the slide during firing. If your polymer frame has some spots that bother you use some a knife blade ir edge to scrap them back or sand paper to smooth. I have had to do the same to m&p's and glocks . Now as tp wearing it out you probably wll not live long enough to wear out that ct9. Just replace the springs as needed and keep it clean and well lubed. In the future try the search function . And YES the notch in the front rail is suppose to be there.
Here are photos of the matel rails used in your pistol. .

Brand new, 300 rounds without any problems? You must have had a blast, (so to speak.) I'd just keep shooting it and enjoy. Maybe a good cleaning before the next session in case some of that soot is polymer dust.

The plastic rail on my CM9 was a little krunked up after 200 rounds. I just used a nail file to remove the burrs and smooth it up and it has been fine since.
