I took my sister-in-law's boyfriend shooting with me last Thursday. We fired my G21 SF, my PM45, and my MKIII 22/45 Lite. He really liked the latter with the Bushnell TRS25 sight.
I took 250 rounds of .45... 100 Herter's, 100 S&B, and 50 Federal... all 230-gr FMJ. I think it was the Federal... the last box used.. that a had a few multiple misfires... or not denting the primers enough. After multiple tries with the PM45, the rounds fired fine in my G21.
During my pistol cleaning, I stripped the slide of the PM45 and noted no problems, but went ahead and removed the 5-lb striker spring and put the original one back in... just in case that was the problem.
The primers showed weak dents with the PM45, but it could have been hard primers. In any case, I feel the full-strength striker spring may help preclude light strikes in the future.
I did have a malfunction of sorts with the PM45 after reassembly. The firing pin would go full forward when the safety block was depressed. I was wondering WTF and realized that I had left the striker spring rest out of the striker when I had cleaned it. I took the slide back down and installed the spring rest and put the pistol back together... all worked fine.
Sometimes you have to make sure that there are no "extra" parts left over!
Wynn :)
