I was looking for something different in a holster for my P45. I was debating between a stingray holster and an elephant holster. I thought the stingray looked great, but after getting some feedback from people who've had them, they described just how abrasive the stingray is on clothing. At the end of the day, they looked great but as far as a daily carry holster, seemed to have too many negatives. So I settled on elephant (legal, of course). Elephant holsters typically are in the $300 range, which is way out of my range, but I found a holster maker in Missouri, who is also a CCW instructor, who started making holsters because he wasn't happy with how thin and flimsy most of the production stuff was. So I asked him to make one for me for my P45. The trouble was, he didn't have a blue gun to use for molding the holster....so he ordered one, and didn't charge me extra for it! (CW45 - same size and there isn't a P45 blue gun made). He got the blue gun, and made this holster up for me, which I got on Saturday. I LOVE it! If anyone is interested, I can give you his contact info and you can discuss it with him. He charged me $115 plus tax and shipping for the holster, which is really reasonable for an exotic holster. The elephant hide is like a sheet of iron! I can comfortably say that this thing will last forever! It has great retention, and because of it's stiffness, reholstering is a snap. Here are a few pictures of it:

Looks great!

I hardly ever OWB carry so for me to have a holster like that would really be extravagant.

I really like the elephant! Stingray is the most cut and scratch resistant leather there is- but when its just laid over cowhide it seems like a waste. Good score on the price.

It's okay, the elephants are already dead b4 they make holsters out of them.

Oh good, I was afraid the next circus I attended I would see a holster shaped patch taken out of the skin of one of the Elephants. LOL That is a cool looking holster, kind of reminds me a bit of alligator skin. I wonder if they make holsters out of that? I really like some of the alligator skin boots I've seen.

I slept late and woke up in a good mood and the PETA thing was my poor attempt to be a comedian.

We went to the circus last weekend and I could swear there was a 1911-grip-shaped hole in one of their tusks. Bawanna!!!!!

Thanks for the nice comments guys. It really is a nice holster. I was going to go with another Mitch Rosen from their express line like I have for my Ruger SR9C, but I wanted something a little different, and when I found a small shop (one guy - active rancher who just started making holsters for himself because he didn't like how thin most of them were) that had very reasonable prices, I decided to go for it. I'm not disappointed at all. It's nice, and different.

He does also make alligator, ostrich, stingray, etc. HE prefers the elephant ones himself. Like I said, I was originally going to go with stingray, but it just seemed to have too many negatives. I'm glad I decided on elephant. The Ostrich ones really look nice, too. ALL of them are lined in cowhide, of course.

I can neither confirm nor deny this accusation. I wasn't even here that day, couldn't be me. I love elephants especially ones with great big ivory tusk.

I do like that holster a bunch. And I OWB everyday. I'd prefer my favored Mernickle style as opposed to the pancake though. Maybe I'll contact Bob and see if he has any elephants out back or a circus coming to town.

I have an elephant wallet that is about 50 years old. Looks new on the outside. The inside fabric is worn to threads. Tough, tough leather. Enjoy your new holster. Very nice.

He's a good guy, isn't he? Holsters are TANKS! That really looks nice. I'm sure it'll wear like iron. I've been using mine daily and like it more after a couple weeks of break in. Fantastic holster. I couldn't be happier with it.
