Was finally able to pick up the used K9 I had on layaway at a local gun store....love the feel of the pistol and for the most part am very happy with the purchase....however I do have a couple concerns....when I removed the grips, I noticed what appeared to be a gray, paste like substance on some of the internal parts, what might this be? (sorry for the new question). Also, I have noticed a few small to tiny brown spots, and a slight amount of "grime" underneath the edges of the grips...some

Spray some Brakleen on a rag and wipe off the over-lubed internal parts along with any brown spots and grime under the edges of the grips. Apply a light amount of gun oil to the internals. Avoid putting Brakleen on the grips, it may attack the plastic.

WHOA! Time for a thorough cleaning; that looks to be someone's idea of a 'magic grease'. Is the grease holding moisture around the grip and starting a bit of rust? You'll want to field strip and brush cleaner on as much of the metal as you can get to, then take it outside and use a can of Gunscrubber or BrakeKleen on what can't reach with the brushes. The rusty looking stuff should come off with the brush and solvent, if it doesn't, check back here.

Alternately, field strip it and drop in an ultrasonic cleaner or just detail strip the whole thing if you are capable/comfortable. If not, take it back to your gun store and see if they will make you a deal on a detail strip and clean.

You may want to see these Stickies for a good understanding:

Yours isn't new but read this, too:
http://www.kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?1521-Proper-prep-of-a-new-kahr (see cleaning striker channel w/o disassembly)

Can't seem to find one on detail strip of the lower but probably not necessary...

After that, buy a case of decent hardball and see if you can wear that thing out.

Oh, and forgive my manners, welcome to the forum.
