View Full Version : Polymer Kahr durability?

I just read that polymer kahr pistols have an average life of quadruple digit round count. Less than 10,000 rounds. About the life of a kel tec. That makes me upset. Any truth to this? How durable are the poly kahrs?

I seriously doubt the part about the 10,000 rounds. You would see a lot of complaints on this site if it were true and Kahr would go out of business. I plan to put almost 5,000 rounds through my P9 this year. So far, I've hit the 900 rounds mark.

Jocko will probably chime in here. He has a polymer Kahr (I believe it's a PM series) that has a very high round count with no problems.

Last we saw Jocko's round count thru his PM9, it was in excess of 32,000.

Have read similar doubts (10,000 rounds) about the durability of the inexpensive base model S&W Sport AR - because the barrels are made from 4140 steel instead of the harder 4150. Anyways, S&W test ran two of them for 140,000 rounds with just an occasional cleaning & lubing, and a recoil spring change IIRC.

The average life span of a Kahr is 87,426 rds. Anything less would upset me also:)

Y'know, with the price of ammo these days, the manufacturers ought to give away a free gun with each ammo purchase. ;)

Don't know how this dribble gets started! ("If its on the internet it has to be true. Bon Jour") I can tell you from experience it's BS. If you wear a Kahr out shooting it, let us know.

Is there any truth it this ! Really ? maybe you should ask KAHR but sounds like you have all ready decided it is or you would not have asked . Go buy a gluck and you will feel better that it will last longer or go buy a keltec and save some money.

I have no interest is shooting near 10,000 rounds through a CCW gun. I use my AK's and AR for that rate of shooting.

Yes, I read that too. On the internet.

You can choose to believe it if you wish. Me? I'm just gonna shoot the Fokker! :D I can't be any more helpful than that...

No kidding. If my CM45 breaks after 10k rounds, I might even be thankful for the sanity check. I mean wow, that's $4000 in ammo for one gun alone. That's above my shooting budget.

Besides, what would break? Springs? Cheap to replace. The frame? Also much cheaper than a new gun. Of course I have heard there are people who throw stuff away at even the most trivial of repairs.

Gene, you are getting a bit crap for a reasonable question, but all is well meant .

I think your arms will fall off before you need a new frame for your gun. Few people ever fire even close to that number through any one particular firearm over their lifetime. That said, you will need spring replacements etc.

The man is new to this site, so cut him some slack. He was asking a reasonable question. No need to pile on. We seem to be getting somewhat like some other sites. Let's don't go there.

I honestly didn't see the OP getting an excessive amount of crap. A little bit maybe, but nothing out of line.

But apparently whatever he read about the durability of Kahrs was crap. ;)

I don't think the polymer will wear out after that many rounds. It would take a lot of rounds for that to happen.

I'd sure like to be able to put that many rounds through mine. Not in my budget right now though.

AMEN to that...It was a legitimate question...If he was some know it all stating he heard this and its ABSOLUTELY true, then I could see piling on him...

Disagree. A statement like "I just read that ...," without reference to any source, doesn't merit any response other than JohnR's. If there was a link to something credible and legit that would be different. On the other hand what if it's just random comments on some other forum?

No disrespect to the OP who seems sincere, but the simple question "How durable are Kahr polymer frames?" without the preamble would have been better.

And I disagree with you as well. The OP stated he read this on the internet, and then asked if it was true, and what how durable the frames were. Those were questions, he's not stating this as fact. There have been issues with all brands of pistols, as well as KAHR, we all know this. When I purchased my PM45 and the sight fell off, I had questions about it, as well as the finish. I joined here and also asked questions about my pistol, as it was my first KAHR. He's a new member here, and him letting others know what he read is/should not be an issue. And I too would ask about something if I read/heard it. Especially if it was concerning the PM series, because they are by no means cheap.

Hey, I ain't taking a harsh tone or piling on the OP - just said what we know to be true. The OP shouldn't get put off by all the responses, even if ol' Jocko finally weighs in whenever he gets back from his motorboatin' tour in Florida. That may be quite a hoot.

I think the issue has been addressed.

The bottom line is the issue isn't an issue. The op and hopefully many others learned something.

Let's put this one to rest and move on.

Hopefully the op understands and will hang around and enjoy the party. Piling on happens. Many here ride for several brands and can be a might defensive at times, myself included.

So as the sun sits pretty much straight up, just past high noon hereabouts, lets send this one cross the river with warm fond memories.
