I had a ghost ring sight made and installed on a K9 that I purchased new in 1996. I had a penetration injury to my left (dominant) eye in the early '90s which has negatively affected my sight in that eye. I am left handed but can manage things right handed. I have always shot a bow right handed and used stringed instruments right handed. There wasn't much choice in the late 50's. I saw my friend's Dad use a beautiful Bear Kodiak Magnum. I would have learned to shoot standing on my head to get a chance to use that bow. Bought one and used it for years and years. Long guns; early on, most were bolt action that were slightly awkward left handed but I always shot better as a lefty. Didn't have much experience with pistols/revolvers until I got out of the Army in the late 60's and was required to travel in my job. Worked in Central America, West Africa and a long stint in South Vietnam as a contractor. When I got married up and had a daughter in 1972, I gave up that life and moved back to the US.
Please forgive the long story version I am giving you. Old guys can get very wordy under certain circumstances and I an certainly no exception.
Anyhow, when I had the eye injury, I tried shooting pistols right handed. Didn't work very well. I had a little experience with ghost rings on shotguns and some on rifles. You know, when you need a fast sight picture on a rifle with a peep, you screw out the aperture fitting and use the larger diameter housing to sight through.
Talked to a gunsmith and he understood my problem. He made a ghost ring with an inner diameter of `5.85 mm. Believe it or not, it worked really well in that my shooting became more accurate with that gun. I love that pistol. Carry it quite often in a Kramer horsehide holster.
I haven't used a ghost ring on any other pistols. A large part of my shooting experience these days is blasting away at a target at the gun range with my Grandchildren.
My question is if you haven't gone to sleep already reading this; Do any of you guys have experience with pistol ghost ring sights and if so, what are they?
