I want to help my adult daughter purchase a handgun for home defense as her husband travels for work and is away from home a lot. She lives in Nashville, TN. I live in Michigan and have a Michigan CPL, and am very familiar with MI gun laws. However I am not familiar with Tennessee gun laws.

She has no interest in obtaining a CPL. She simply wants to buy a handgun for home protection. I am insisting that she take a basic handgun safety course, and I will help her as well.

I may help her order from Bud's, Davidson's, or Grab-A-Gun, as I use those for most of my own handgun purchases. Can anyone tell me what she needs to do to satisfy TN gun purchase laws? In MI the gun is shipped to a FFL, who does the transfer and paperwork. A person who is not a CPL holder has to get a purchase permit from local police to take to the FFL or gun store. Is it like that in TN or is there some other hoops to jump through?

Any help from forum members who are TN residents would be appreciated. I do know that TN has reciprocity with MI and that my MI CPL is valid in TN.

Thanks!

There are not any hoops to jump through in Tennessee. A driver's license showing Tennessee as state of residence and ship it to her local ffl.

Even better if you're going that way buy her one in MI and just give it to her. Gift is no problem.

Also as far as carry she can have it in the car without an HCP if she is allowed to own one. That would let her have it on her walking in the house.
