View Full Version : Does KAHR Sell Frames for their Polymer Series Pistols?

Hey all,

Kinda curious about something. Does anyone know if you can buy a polymer frame from Kahr if you wanted to change the pistol you currently have to something more concealable. Say you have a new TP9 and want to conceal it better, can you buy a P series frame for it? Or...will they sell one to an FFL if you wanted it?

Thanks

No, they do not sell frames. You have to buy complete pistols, but.... if you approach things right, you can almost do what you are wanting to do.

That is, a TP slide will fit on the P frame. You can get a P pistol, and buy a slide, barrel, and other parts to make it work as a short gripped TP.

The other polymer frames won't interchange, to the best of my knowledge.

...or you can do a TP grip chop. It's been done before. Search these threads for "grip chop".

P.S. Requires nerves of steel.

Yeah that's exactly what I would like to have, the OLD TP9 with the short grip frame. I wish there was some shop that did this kind of work where I could get a new CT9 and send it to them and they would take care of it.

I would be mighty scared to take the DREMEL to one knowing that if I made a mistake, I just tossed $325 down the toilet.

Anyone know if there is a shop that does this "grip chop" like you call it?

Thanks for the help.

KAHR much like COLT and Beretta do things that are just not easily understood. They have models that they could bring out and achieve significant sales, I think. Concealed carry is such a BIG selling point these days that you'd think KAHR would take every advantage they could to maximize their presence in the gun scene. The thing that makes it very hard to understand is that this stuff wouldn't require a single penny of extra expenditures from them. The pistols that I want, and many others like me, could be done with all existing slides and frames. Heck they could even use the VALUE series frames and slides.

They could call the new series the "Value Carry" line or some such. Take a CT9 and put a CW9 frame on it and then take the CW9 and put the smaller frame on it. Do it with all the calibers and keep the prices the same. I'd go get one of those CT9 pistols tomorrow. As it stands though, I am thinking about getting a CT9 and taking a DREMEL to it to make it into the TP9 that I handled and wanted all those years ago.

Someone from KAHR....PLEASE explain why you don't do this to me.

If I were to chop a grip to make a polymer pistol more concealable, I think I would consider using a hand saw with a blade made to cut plastics. I used such a blade to shorten a polymer .223 magazine down to 5 rounds. It might take me longer to shorten a grip this way but there's also less chance of ruining the cut. The Dremel would come in handy to finish off the end of the grip or a file and abrasives could serve the same purpose.

:D Probably because a longer slide / sight radius really isn't that much of an advantage in the SHTF scenarios for which Kahrs are designed. For those who want a smaller gun, Kahr builds smaller guns. Your desire for a "covert" model is a neat idea but that doesn't make it commercially viable. Remember that Kahr did dabble a little bit with covert models and must have determined them not worthy of continuing forward. Also note that you can now buy Kahrs retail for under $300. Whatever they are doing to drive down prices must be working.

Up until this new gen,/gen 2/ whatever...methinks Kahr's been doing everything business model correct. Develop quality with value for the niche, feed the niche, stay innovative tech and demand current, introduce perceived but not really lesser lower cost versions of variants when their market saturates, repeat, and don't lose your way/go off the rails.

They could easily offer the models that I and others here would still like to have. It wouldn't cost them anything to do so, not a single dime. In fact, they could simply put a $50 surcharge on any "special" orders like that.

Look at the "value" series they have out. You can buy one of the CT9 pistols for about $300 to $325. They could simply allow those that want a CT9 with a shorter grip frame, say from a CW9, to have their FFL order one for them at a small upcharge.

Obviously KAHR doesn't need any help running their business from me. They are doing fine, I would guess. I'm just saying this would be a NO COST way to further give their faithful KAHR customers what they wanted.

Oh well, just my thoughts anyway.
