guy on my tarantula fb group (other hobby of mine) got into a fight a while back and got shot point blank in the neck with some sort of 380.

guy said he even had powder burns from it. he said that they couldnt remove it, and that it didnt have space to expand..

The victim is extremely fortunate he can talk about it. Not to start a caliber war but I'm not sure a PM45 would have had the same outcome.

Wow! That sure warrants a Kids, don't try this at home warning.

Surprised it didn't take out his windpipe or juglar. Bad spot to be shot even with a 380.

No spinal damage neither?

A friend of mine got shot in the neck in Chicago with a .380 auto when some a-hole tried to hijack his truck. He drove himself to the hospital. The hospital saved his life, but he lost his voice box. He talks now using with an electro-mechanical device. The perp was crushed to death by the trailer he was pulling.

Strange why projectile can not be removed. If it was anywhere but muscle there would be noticeable damage and if it is muscle it could be removed. ? Just saying?

he said they couldnt remove it because it was right up against some nerves, and they didnt want to mess with them.. said he has some tingling in his hands/fingers occationally but no big damage

Ignorant question but how do people not get lead poisoning from bullets left in the body?
I have read multiple stories about leaving them in due to medical risk from removal but never understood how leaving them in didnt create other problems.

Sorry about you friend but it sounds like the perp got what he had coming system. I hope the fire department just hosed the body into the sewer.

^ Not an ignorant question at all. The lead in muscle tissue will not dissolve and therefore is not picked up by the blood stream. Unlike lead which is ingested or lead fumes breathed into the lungs. Explains why in the above case surgeons thought surgery would do more harm than good. Always enjoyed the old Westerns when the Doc would dig out a .45 slug with a Bowie knife and then declare "Another quarter inch and it would have been in his heart".

Same here and I might add: the Doc would be the town drunk and always started "surgery" with three double shots of Red Eye before picking up his Bowie knife. In "My Darling Clementine" Doc Holiday operates on a saloon girl who got shot. In spite of Hollywood, truth be told Doc Holiday was a dentist.

I think that I was biting down on one of those bullets when they replaced my knee last month. :)

Truth be told, most of the barbers in town acted as the dentist AND the doctor. Except of course Don Knotts in "The Shakiest Gun in the West".

Your friend might want to keep an eye on that bullet. The body has a tendency to reject foreign objects. A friend of mine who was wounded in Vietnam was picking shrapnel out of himself for years.

His trailer didn't sustain any damage, did it?:)

Haha...I actually understand that. Unless unlucky, it either becomes encased and dormant or benignly works its way out.

Nothing that couldn't be hosed off. He didn't run the perp over intentionally. It was just the perps misfortune. He fell off the side of the truck when it lurched.
