Shot the snake this past evening with the PM9 and the P380. Both guns were loaded with Hornady Critical Defense ammo. I didn't have enough time to go get the shotgun, so I had to make do with what I had on me. The two shots by the head were with the .380.:86:

I concur good snake. Good rounds and good work with them. Did you shoot it after it was dead?

I would have shot till there was nothing to take a picture of. Then ran over it with my van, poured gasoline over a 10 acre area and called in a napalm strike just in case there were any relatives.

I don't do snakes, or bees. Bee's are damn hard to hit though. Wynn's flaming WD 4o trick works on those but I usually just stick with the wasp spray.

That's one big cottonmouth. I hear those can be pretty nasty when they're alive. Glad you or anyone else wasn't hurt.

ya had me worried with the warning about a graphic post. I was afraid this was gonna be one of those posts recommending use of a walking stick to just move mr. forest (swamp) creature out of the way and continue your nature walk. THAT would be graphic, in my opinion.

Your post is a work of art. That is now one fine cotton mouth.

I hate copperheadedcottonmouthedcoralwaterrattlers, until they have been customized as above.

Turns out I misidentified the snake, not a cottonmouth but a harmless water snake. But at any rate, it's a little too late for this guy.

Nice shooting there Habernatho, You are right, that is a watersnake and not a cotton mouth...One way you can tell is the eyes of a venomous snake has slit pupils like a cat (which probably explains my basic dislike of cats)....A non venomous snake has round pupils like most other animals....I don't like any snake and IMO all are deadly and I also don't plan on getting close enough to check the pupils unless the head looks like the snake in the picture...good job because if I stepped on that dude it wouldn't matter if it was venomous or not because my heart would explode and it would be lights out for me!!!...:2eek:...:faint2:

Either way a good snake. I too hate the things and don't stop to ask if it is dangerous. I have a good snake story or two but they will have to wait.

What's the inside of the mouth of a Bawanna look like? Other than mostly toothless with a faint scent of Scotch on rare occasions.

My theory on snakes is a snake is a snake is a snake. I've read and heard the red touches yellow your a dead fellow stuff but I don't plan to scrutinze something I plan to kill as fast as possible.
There's live snakes= BAD and dead snakes= GOOD. End of snake lesson.

:) Everyone BE CAREFUL !!!!!!!

BAWANNASNAKE'S will drink up ALL of your BOOZE & then GUM you to death. !!!

:D R.Y.

Guess they could be considered harmless then. Booze has to disinfect the guns (one track mind) GUMS, so no germs.
I'm still killin it if I see one.

:)Awwww.....now don't go warning people about me !!! It tends to lesson the effect of my " SmartA$$ " approach to things. LOL !!! :D

I am sure when WYNN get's here later he will describe the Bite of the dreaded " TURBO BUCKETMOUTH " the most notorious of all Internet Gun Forum Critters !

I love your approach to things myself, but some say I'm a little different. It's been so long since we had a member of the female pursuasion that I just didn't want to scare her off. Being hitched to a fellow lawman does leave room for speculation and I suspect she has a unique approach to things as well.

I look forward to Wynn's explicit description of the bite.

:) OK.................let's have a little Basic Snake Class 101 here.

A COTTONMOUTH , can easily be identified by the fact that the inside of it's mouth is WHITE & Kind of FLUFFY. Hence the name COTTONMOUTH.

I wish it was that easy, The snake did strike towards me, and in fact its mouth was white in color. Here's an excerpt from an article I found, "Most water snake species in Texas mimic the cottonmouth by showing their white mouth when agitated, and even changing their head into a pit viper-like diamond shape. They will even strike at you; although their bite can does nothing more than cause a little pain.":D
