We can only hope this plays out to its logical conclusion!

So ridiculous that an 18 year old can pick up a sweet rifle at an out-of-state store, but I can't buy a .22 target pistol.

I got hit on this trying to buy a 1911 while on active duty in Mississippi. Funny thing is, I bought a little Beretta in CA of all places, again while on active duty, with no problems at all, other than the five day waiting period.

and this sort of cuts to the heart of the Kalifornia gun debacle. IOW can a resident of Kali buy a gun out of state that does not meet the Kalif requirements for sale in Kali? If not, doesn't that interfere with the right to interstate commerce of a legal product? We are watching this closely.

I am not an attorney so the following is only my interpretation of the law and not gospel:

The law pertaining to not meeting the Kalif requirement for sale in Kali ties the hands of the licensed dealers in Kalif. They cannot sell you a handgun that is not on the "safe gun" list. If you should obtain a handgun that's not on the list by other means, you IMO, need to modify the gun to be in compliance with all Kali State laws and even then, may not be "out of the woods". If you have a particular gun in mind, you should run this by the Kalif State Attorney General's office for advice (in writing) before buying that gun.

Since when has the Kali State Legislature been concerned about what's in the Constitution of the U.S. when passing State law?

you are correct. The sticking point is(hopefully was) that we had to go through an FFL here in Kali to buy a gun and the gun had to meet Kali requirements. If the FFL requirement goes away, we then have FFLs from other states that can sell directly to a Kali residents--the only thing stopping them are our stringent requirements. This should drive home that our state laws are so restrictive that it interferes with interstate commerce and could be deemed unconstitutional. Also, as the number of guns fall off the approved DOJ list for sale here in Kali and reaches a critical minimal number available, we can hopefully get in front of the State Supreme Court and argue that our constitutional right to bear arms in being infringed by over restrictive and unreasonable gun laws. So we have a couple of angles to work here in Kali. Unfortunately, there are also some possibly damaging senate bills in the works regarding ammo possession and procurement that can be almost as restrictive to our gun rights which have not got any traction YET. There are big problems here and I hope that the people in "free states" watch what happens here closely. They could be next. Never say never.
