I like the looks of the Ruger SP101 and the rubber part of the stock grip; however, I don't like the looks of the stock black grip panel inserts. So, I just put on some of the Altamont snake skin rosewood grip panel inserts. Here it is. Anyone else dressed up their SP101?

I've made a few panels. I just sent a set off to Mr. Surveyor for a little variety. I'll try to find some pictures in a bit.

Those you got look great. Soooo much better than out of the box huh?

Thanks, Bawanna. Yes, they sure look alot better than the out of box ones. I didn't know you made these for the Ruger. I should have looked you up.

I got the wife a GP101 in 22 years ago so it was a natural thing to do. Also a good place to use up small pieces of wood.

Semi quick to make too. I should whittle out a bunch when I'm sitting around scratching my head thinking of something to do.

I would be interested in GP-101 replacement grips if someone was to make a few.

That's the perfect thing to do for any GP100 or SP101 IMHO. I've even seen those grips with wood inserts on a .454 Alaskan. Good job!

FYI - the GP100 rubber grips fit the Alaskan.

Bawanna, how do you do the screw inserts? Are they readily available? I've got some Zebra wood laying around that i might try if I can figure out the screw inserts.

Bawanna

I just buy escutchions ? from Brownells. There's a nut that is a squeeze fit on the one side, a sort of recessed washer deal on the screw head side and the screw itself.

They are just oversized for length so you have to cut them and file to fit.

I'll try to whittle some out and let everybody know when I get there. I have some zebra wood too, I'll make sure and do some out of that too.

Those Altamont panels look good on that SP101, well done Redstate:)

I bought some wood grips from Thailand for my SP101. Thought I'd go with the cheapest set they had listed on an auction site to see what the fit was like. They needed some work, but after some filing/fitting/sanding/refinishing, they're adequate.

12325Maple burl grip panels from chigsgrips.com for looks. A Wilson spring kit, shims and Meprolight tritium front sight for function. It's a keeper.

Since Bawanna didn't respond to me, I figured that was probably the case .... or I'm still just invisible here.

You're gonna love those grip panels, I've certainly been well pleased with mine :)

Didn't you have a sig line that had something to do with "invisible" at one time? LOL! Or maybe it was about the crazy uncle! Yea, that might be it.

In any case, they have some really fine line checkering on them. Not sure just how he does it.

Yea, MW's got an SP101 too! All us cool guys gots SP101s.

Unless Mr.'s first name is Jim, then you got them to the right one!

If not, they came to my place with my name on the box and the note!

Bawanna

Well other than Mr is gonna have to wait a bit longer this worked out just fine.

I think I got my Surveyors mixed up. I didn't know I even had both your address's. I think my memory is weakening.

I'm glad you got a SP101, this worked out fine.

Mr. I'll make another set and try not to send them to Jocko or Muggsy.

I don't even know for sure which one I told I'd make some for now. But I'm thinking Mr. Who knows, we're good.

Hey B, MW Jim really needed to dress up that plain jane SP101 of his. He's right, all us cool surveyor types have SP101's.

Oh, and even though the "J" in JD represents "James", I never went by James or Jim since my Dad was the "James" in our family.

Thanks B :)

There are advantages to being senile. You meet a lot of new people every day and you never hear an old joke. Works for me. :)

I'd forgotten those. I can always touch those up if you want. I may not have pointed them all the way up too. I often times don't so they aren't so grabby on clothing, especially where they aren't critical to a good grip.

Not really dressed up but with a Pachmayr grip. A little bigger and fuller than the stock grip.
