I was just looking up some different things today and I ran across this about Slow Rust Bluing at Home. Looks like he had real nice results, time and patience and need to keep an eye on everything you do. This maybe something to try in the future, thought it was interesting and the guy did a good write up. So if your handy it might be worth a try. The laurel mountain forge barrel brown and degreaser is available at Midway I’ll put that link up also. Oh lord I just have to try everything once may need to try this some day

I've done some rust bluing using Express Blue #1 and like the results.
Here's a Handi-Rifle receiver done with it:

Plum Brown is a neat finish itself. I used it when refinishing this CVA kit rifle:

I'm thinking about cleaning up some bad factory lines on the receiver of a .35 Rem Marlin Trapper. I might refinish that receiver in Plum Brown.

Great article harrylee. I was just going to get on the net and google "gun bluing" as I have one about ready to do. Haven't tried it before so this will be a great help. Thanks.

And you want the softest carding wheel you can possibly find - Brownells (and others).
