View Full Version : My new 380 and holster

So my Bersa went bye bye. I got rid of it and bought a new taurus tcp 380 and a nice desantis holster. I put a bunch of rounds through it. I had a slight problem of the slide locking back with one round left in the mag. Quickly fixed by hitting the slide release. The slide release contacts the follower when there is a round in the mag. Sportsmans warehouse was nice enough to switch the mag out for me and still the same thing. Other than that it works well. I really liked my bersa but it wasn't working right.

I really don't appreciate your being rude to me. Not very helpful at all. Prick

Gene, you seem to be walking under a black cloud all the time. Ever wonder why? (Prick?????)
Maybe you should carry a knife, they seldom fail.

I think my response was appropriate for your rude demeanor toward me. So are you saying that my purchasing of defective products is directly related to my negative attitude? And I do carry a knife. I used to work for Spyderco. But you can't bring a knife to a gun fight.

Gene will learn soon enough that you generally get what you pay for in a gun. He is not the first one to learn the lesson the hard way. Lets keep it civil.

I was wondering why you picked the Taurus over a wide selection of 380's. I've got a Kahr but continue looking at the others seeing some I like and most I don't over the Kahr. The Bersa is one of those I like because I've heard it's a dependable weapon although a little on the heavy side.

You might want to try Taurus forum and ask. Probably a slide lock tab could use a little tuning like a slight bend upward or a few licks from a file or any bur it may have or send trip home . The two in our family are C series and run great and have about a 1/16" of clearance between the slide lock arm and follower
You have to admit a dark cloud does follow you around dribbling on you and your new handguns . hehehe
So much of dealing with some problems and hand gun is common sense issues . Put an empty 380 brass in that mag and rack it back and lock the slide so you see better see what to fix if that's the problem !! Not a hard fix , just bend the tab up is what I found when I googled the problem !

With all of the money you have spent so far, and all of the hassle, you could have already purchased a dependable firearm and saved yourself a lot of troubles. Taurus, Bersa, Highpoint, and every other cheap firearm that is made, doesn't make it into my home. How many times do you have to hit yourself in the head with a hammer, before you figure out that it doesn't feel good????????????????????????

I think you made a good decision in a TCP. Although I have a Kahr CW380, I have done research on the Taurus and found it to be one of the top 380s out there. If not for Kahr, that would be one of my top choices. Others may not like it, but look into its features and reviews. I don't think you will be sorry.
You don't live under a cloud. Because you are so honest to share your experiences for the benefit of the rest of us, you get pounced on by those who don't seem to have the strength beyond stepping on someone who is down. And how does that help the rest of us?

I've actually heard some good things about the TCP too although the really bad rap the rest of Taurus gets would have me pretty wary of the brand. Then again, I had many, including FFL's, try to warn me away from Kahrs too...and they were definitely wrong.
My personal take GH: have fun experimenting and use these firearms as learning opportunities. They probably won't let you down in that regard. :) Stick to the Kahr and the Glock for carry though. No room for experimentation there.

I really like the little TCP and one more Taurus that's a good one for when dollars are tight is the PT111G2. Gota have that G2 on it . Thin 12 shot 9mm and will take P226 mags as high cap back ups .

hardluk, I could have gone to the Taurus form but I already suspect what they would say. I WANT to know what Gene has to say if you please. "hehehe"

New to the forum.....but I had the opposite happen.
I bought a new TCP. I liked it but could not get a single mag through it without a malfunction, after 3 trips to factory and total of about 86 rounds through it- I gave up and dumped it- and bought a Bersa T380. Turned out to be the best shooter in that size and price range I have ever seen....I have since bought 3 more.
But I need a smaller gun......thats what brought me here. I ordered a CT 380 today- hoping it will serve my pocket needs. Anyway...since I have a Kahr on the way....I needed a forum....and I found this one?

So after hand cycling snap caps and live rounds (get over it safety sallies) a few hundred times the 5th round lock back issue seems to have vanished and I feel that the taurus is fit for carry.

I'm curious, I CC different kahr's and use my weapons as a tool more than an enjoy thing. I read your other post that talked of you have a kahr 380 and happy with it's dependability. Are you a collector of sorts of 380's or are you dissatisfied with your kahr380?

Never said I had a kahr 380. I had considered getting one. I have a kahr ct9 9mm. I like 380s for cc

AHH You did say CT9, sorry. I CC the P380 when I can't CC the larger but mostly the CM9. Nice to hear you seem to have your problem worked out.

So I shot it again with good results. no fifth round lockback at all. I shot a few different brands of defense ammo and some herters target ammo. It doesn't do well with winchester pdx1 but hornady works great. cool.

I've personally have found that the rounded shape bullet works better than not. That 380, as all have said, is ammo sensitive. Sounds like your happy with it,,,,,,,,good that's what it's about.

Hornady is like a cone shape and it did well. The pdx 1 is more round but didn't do so well. It's a nickel plated case and it seemed too powerful for that tiny gun and had some issues.

I did have one failure to extract with herters. the spent case was left in the chamber. I already polished the feed ramp maybe I need to polish the chamber now?

I wouldn't worry too much about one failure from a box of Herters. You and the gun did good. Make sure your SD ammo cycles correctly and maybe some high quality FMJ and you should be good to go.

I had a gray framed TCP, 264 serial number I think. I sold it last year wanting more power in a pocket gun. It had a very light trigger, smooth action and was surprisingly accurate at 20 yards. My 14 yoa and I, at the time were shooting closest to a inch round dot on paper at 15/20 yards. He was an inch to the left and I was an inch to the right. I kinda miss it for a light pocket gun.
