My friend just got the Lewis Lead Remover from Brownells yesterday and dropped it off to me to try out. Ok all I needed was a dirty gun, since they were all clean ok twist my arm had to go to the range. That being done home with a gun to be cleaned. You see the kit and it came with 38/357 cleaning tip out side the box is the 45 cleaning tip bought separately. Before you put the tip on you put a screen on and they say to bend the screen over the cleaning tip to form it, I had a piece of 1/2" copper pipe so I thought why not just pull it through that to form it seemed to work well. As you can see I took pictures of the barrel before, did clean it out with Hoppe’s first to get rid of the carbon so what you see is lead build-up. So you take the tip off put the rod thru the barrel put the tip on and pull thru as you can see on the 1st pass the lead came out did for about 12 passes and you see a lot of lead. And the finish pictures show it did remove quite a bit of the lead, not all but still really good results the last bit shouldn’t be hard to scrub out. Now without it that would have been major cleaning so overall I think this is a very handy tool. But now I have to give it back to him soon. Got enough metal laying around the shop may have to make one the lathe. Now didn’t shoot a much as I want to because the hammer strut on my 1911 broke (BUMMER) so now what, this is the cool part I’m only 10 minutes down the road from EGW was in and out within 10 minutes with new part in hand. So everything back in running order.:)

Looks good.
Did you ever try Chore Boy (solid copper scrub pad) to clean and remove lead from bores? It works great too. Just be sure you get the solid copper pads and not copper washed steel pads.
I just tear off some strands, then wrap it around a bore brush or mop and after a few passes, nice and clean.
Lewis Lead Remover has been around a very long time. Works quite well before final cleaning to get the majority of the crud out of heavily leaded bores.

I've had one for many years, used it alot when I shot my revolvers alot.
I don't shoot much lead bullets anymore or the revolvers as often but the lead remover stays handy and ready if I remedy that in the future.
They do work very well.
Now that I ponder I think mine has considerable adjustment to it, so I could use it on multiple calibers, I don't recall having different pieces to hand the screen on. I'll have to look and see, been awhile.

Back in the 70's I had to buy one for my S&W 629 after I leaded up the barrel with too soft a lead at too high a velocity. Copper brushes didn't work, but the Lewis Lead Remover worked.
Wynn :)
I'm kinda where you are, Col. Other than some .22 rimfire I quit shooting lead when I stopped reloading a goodly time back. With time to mess with it I been thinkin' of getting back to roll my own stuff using hard cast again. So prolly should go figger out where my own Lewis thingy is hiding.

I've used a Lewis Lead Remover with good results since 1984.

Lewis lead remover has worked well for me in my revolver.
I am too lazy to do all that work. ;-) I use an Outers "foul out" for copper and lead removal. Just plug the barrel, fill it up with solution, insert rod and plug it in. Removes all lead or copper. That being said, the Lewis system seems to work pretty well too. When shooting my stainless revolvers, I use a "Lead away" cloth to remove the stain on the end of the cylinder and other places on the frame. I have used a "lead away" patch on occasion to remove lead from a barrel as well.
I remember one outing a friend handed me 5 357 "lead" cartridges and said "here try these, you will like them". I put them in my Ruger SP101 and unloaded the cylinder. Yikes! were they hot. I did not shoot the gun any more after that. When I got home to clean the gun, I looked in the barrel and crapped! I actually had stalagmites and stalactites in the bore! The bore was that fouled. Did not have the Outer's back then. I could have used the Lewis device. After an incredible amount of scrubbing, I finally got the lead out. Learned a lesson that day! I still shoot lead but not as a first choice. No more hot rounds either! ;-)
Haha, got that....hot loads put up with wheel weight lead be the fastest way be makin' a smooth bore out of a silk purse.

I also used it a lot to remove lead from the cylinder of my revolvers when I was shooting revolvers back in the 80's. It was a "must have" for revolver shooters. Since switching to semi-autos and shooting only jacked ammo, it's been sitting in my parts drawer...
