I only have a small safe mounted inside of a dresser cabinet. It has room for a couple pistols and some small stuff. I live in an apartment and am wondering where I can store my guns while i'm at work for 14 hours. I can buy a bigger safe but I wouldn't be able to mount it anywhere and I don't want to spend the cash anyway.

My son thought the same way until his home was broken into and he lost a colt Python, a Sig and a 1911. What bothered him the most wasn't the financial loss, but the thought of some criminal using one of his guns to kill someone. Being a gun owner you bear a lot of responsibility. If you are strapped for cash look for a used safe. My son found his at an estate sale.

+1000. We as responsible gun owners have a duty to know where our guns are 100%. It doesn't have to be a fancy gun safe. Some old file cabinets are really heavy/ are made to act as safes. We found one at a garage sale too. At the least, store them in a closet and swap out the handleset with one that locks with a key. That will only cost you about $30. A thief could still break in but you would avoid unhappy accidents.

For about $100, you can get a 2 gun safe and strap it to the bottom of the bed................that's what I do..................won't stop them completely, if they want to hang around for a while, but it WILL slow them down immensely. If you don't want to spend any $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$, no one can help you.

if I'm at the convenience store and the thug pulls a Python out of his pants and demands money (and I can't get a shot at him), I'll offer him market value for the Colt. That's about 10 times more than he would get from the store. if I can get a shot at him and he goes down, the Python is mine! (don't care if I have to spread some cash around to the store owner or the cops, the Python goes home with me!)
I have guns stashed all over the house-- kitchen drawer, next to the toilet paper, within reach of the doors, basement, upstairs, the .32 in my shirt pocket, the 9mm in my belt. see, the joys of retirement. after years of thinking and experimenting, I still haven't found the perfect place for the shotgun. I think I need more shotguns.

Took the door knob out of a closet door and replaced it with a deadbolt lock, keyed both sides.
Replaced the hinges with ones that the pins are not removable.
Put long screws thru the door frame, hinges, and striker plate etc, into the studs.
Put the knob back in when I moved out, left the other stuff.
Same deal will work to keep stuff out of reach curious kids/guest kids, guests, in your house.

Either hide it better or it seems that you are SOL.

A few years ago I saw a plan that someone had picked up a used Coke machine, took the innards out and made a very neat gun safe out of it.

I've done some of those...but that one dude stepped on his dog!?!
Get a small...circa 2x2x2...Sentry fire safe. Sold as personal papers/small valuables protection storage, which is what I've been using mine for for the last mebbe 15 years in my office at home. Not that expensive, apartment size friendly, uses lock bolts, and too heavy for the not equipped to deal with it burglar to cart out. Betting that would pretty well for your needs. Bolt it down if you can for a bit extra peace of mind if you want.

I'm thinking I may do this to add an extra layer of security.
You would think thee Gene Hackman could afford a safe though...
