Recently purchased a K9. During cleaning I noticed both ends of guide rod spring are same diameter, but manual says one should be larger. Pistol has low round count according to original owner and shows no real amount of wear. Guide rod is blued steel. Did all K9s come with steel rods? I heard they were plastic from factory. This one was purchased around 2000. Thanks

Your spring and guide rod are normal. The K9 has always had a steel rod with a flange on the chamber end. The spring should have a tight coil on the chamber end with the muzzle end open. If it's larger it isn't by much and not noticeable.

Well, I recently ordered a new K9 guide rod (standard, not SS) along with a recoil spring for a nearly 20 year old K9 I bought a couple months ago. Both the old and new rods are completely straight except one end has the flange that the flat part of the spring slides up against.
It was also regular steel, not plastic. I don't think a plastic one would last long.

The plastic would have probably lasted forever, but, your like me....................I change out all my plastic rods to metal.........................

Fyi. K model guide rods are steel, MK's are plastic. I left the standard in both mine with no issues. They will last forever as bbone said.
