I just received a new (as a spare) recoil spring for my PM9 from Kahr.
I noticed that it's close to 1/2 inch longer than the one in my gun..and it has only twenty rounds fired through it.
Should new recoil springs compress that fast?

Can I ask why you would need a spare recoil spring with only 20 rnds through the gun?

I didn't "need" one, I wanted one.
That's why I referred to it as a spare.
Now back to my original question please.

I just wondered if you had experienced a failure before, that's all.

My apologies for misreading your post.
No sir, no failures. Just wondering why it was shorter than the new one after only only 20 rounds

New uncompressed springs are always longer. Count the coils and compare the diameter of the wire and the diameter of the coil. Don't ever cut a new one down... it will just take a set after installation and be too short or too weak.

Modern springs are designed to take a "set"... stay compressed a bit and do their job. Kahr springs usually last 1,000 to 1,500 rounds or more. i only change mine when I have a problem... as the slide no longer closing fully because the recoil spring has gotten too weak. That has happened once with my P380. I don't count rounds, but it was probably within the range I mentioned above.

what wyn said is the only way to know if u have the correct spring for your PM9. They make two lengths for the PM9, one for the old style blunt noxe version and one for the new version slides that have been aorund for maybe 4 years. ore than likely ur spring has taken a set even wtih 20 rounds as it is not under compression...I think ur ok as u have stated no issues,..
