I have a local person with a 14 year old DPMS AR, with 20 inch bull barrel. He said he put a couple mags through it when it was new to test it out, and it's just been sitting in the safe since then, He does keep it oiled. Has the standard AR furniture, no collapsible stock. Has the carry handle with sights.
Is $675 a fair price for that rifle? The main thing is it would have no paper work pointing to me.

Most places I've checked they are going for around 1K and up new with the 20" barrel.

I really never wanted one, until all the noise about banning them.

I heard on the radio last night that New York state where you're supposed to register your "assault weapons" has had about 2-3 percent compliance. :Amflag2:

$675 with no paper trail is a very good price for that rifle. They are going for $773 on Buds Gun Shop, and that doesn't include the FFL xfer fee and BGC. I'd pick it up in a heartbeat if I was given the chance.

Sounds like your looking more for justification, rather than if it's a good deal:p You only live once.............................................. .........

I have a Maine made Bushmaster 20 inch H-bar with all standard AR furniture and its a tack driver with PMC or American Eagle. If you have the money and the bore is good buy it.

In the flatlands of Kansas i bet you could have some real fun with it.

Thanks All, I don't keep up on the black rifles much, and wasn't sure what the going price was. I did think DPMS was a good brand though. I guess I'll see the guy tomorrow.
I don't really need the justification, I been wanting to pick one up for a bit. I just sold a motorcycle and had some extra $$$, so thought would be a good chance to grab one.

Only black rifle I own is $99 SKS cleaned up, with black hardwood furniture, detachable mags, and a when I want it on there Bushnell scope. Not a 5.56/.223 fan, I be good with that.

Looks like a really nice piece TMan! I like the hand guard and the SS bull barrel, you're making me wish I had gotten a similar model instead of the flat top DPMS Oracle I just bought.

Looks nice. I put an aluminum handguard like that one on mine but with the heavy barrel I had no significant gain in the MOA that it would shoot already. If you want to lighten it up a bit after you get it you can put a standard handguard on it and save a pound on weight.

That said I may drill rows of vent holes in the guard to lighten it up and put it back on. So much you can do with an AR. I like to keep mine light as possible.

Although not the same model, I have a DPMS bought new a couple of years ago. Excellent AR. You won't beat the price on that one. Like you I wasn't all that keen to get one until I was told I couldn't have it. Now I wonder why I waited so long. Very enjoyable gun to shoot.

Thanks for the heads up yqtszhj. My rifle says it's chambered for .223 instead of 5.56, both on the receiver and on the barrel, so I think I'll stick with ,223, for now at least.
DPMS says not too shoot the 5.56 in .223 chambered rifles. I can't find any instances of any rifles blowing up shooting 5.56 in .223 chambers, but why push it to save a few bucks?
You'd think with that bull barrel and beefy chamber it wouldn't hurt anything. I was kinda pissed, the guy advertised it as a .223/556. But he wouldn't take less. He already came down from $700 and that was all he was going to drop the price. I guess I need to work on my "shaming" people.

I actually grabbed the American Eagle Polymer Tip varmint rounds. Same Price. About the same ballistics, a 50gr bullet instead of a 55gr. I saw a guy shoot one into a gel block, it went in a couple inches, expanded for a few more inches then exploded, sending bullet fragments everywhere. Should be just the thing for coyote, feral dogs, and such.

CDDN Sports has AR Promags for cheap this week. >$6 for 30 round. They have others on sale too, 20 round, 42 round, some aluminum ones. A pretty good assortment.
