View Full Version : 1911 replicas that are not A1s

Would anyone be interested in affordable reproductions of early model 1911 pistols? There are plenty of 1911A1 clones out there but no 1911s (that I am aware of). Colt had a limited run of them a couple of years ago and they now offer a presentation grade from their custom shop but that is not what I am looking for. I want something that looks like I walked into a store, in the early ‘20s, and bought it off the shelf. I do not believe I am the only one; I am certain a gun like this would appeal not only to Zoot Shooters but SASS Wild Bunch cowboys and collectors as well. The other expensive options are to one, buy a used 1911, have it restored and potentially destroy its historical value; or two, have a gunsmith build a custom replica.

Speak-up, people that can make this happen are listening!

I'd sure be up for buying one at least, maybe a couple. The tooling is certainly there, seems like it would be easy to get in production and not have to charge an arm and a leg to get one either.
Sign me up for two!

The toughest part would be the 1911 Frame. I don't know who except Colt that make a straight 1911 Frame anymore.
If you would compromise using a A1 Frame with 1911 sights, trigger, flat mainspring housing and hammer (that always bits the web of my hand) you might get that. Maybe with the 100 Anniversary coming up next year there will be more 1911 frames being made.
Para Ordnance is already making a SASS Wild Bunch Gun.

Maybe our sponsors at Kahr would be interested.

Caspian makes the correct frame but that falls into the custom realm.
2011 would be a great year to introduce a new-old 1911!

I'd want it to be a Colt anyhow if I had my choice. Just seems correct to me.

Sounds like a good idea; there's a lot of Great War/20's/30's reenactors out there who would buy them....;)

I'm sure a number of my Cowboy Action Wild Bunch shooting friends would beat a path to the door of who ever was visionary enough to offer a real 1911. I'm going over to the SASS wire and ask this same question, I think I know what the answer will be.

Yes.

(Although it might be tough to beat the original surplus price tag - 13 dollars in 1920 had the same buying power as 141.82 current dollars. )
