Ruger MK3 Magazines to MK3 22/45 Mags

I had 4... now 3... Ruger factory Mark III mags for sale. I have a Mark III 22/45 Lite and can't use them.

Elsewhere I saw where someone was trying to sell a MK3 22/45 mag but someone told him that all he needed to do was change the base for a MKIII one. Hmmm... I have the +1 bumpers by TandemKross for sale as well. After looking for differences, I swapped one of the MkIII's bases for a +1 22/45 bumper and it worked. I had a few marks on 4 of the bullets and one jammed and would not go into the chamber with multiple attempts to rack the slide... stayed partly in the mag. I'll have to range test the altered mag at the range, but now I can maybe use those Mark III's as my own.

Pictures:

Leftmost mag is unaltered MK3, center: altered, right: altered MK3 22/45 magazine. I like the bumpers. http://rugercdn.forumfoundrycdn.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Bullets racked through pistol. Left most is one that jammed and I tried 3 or more times to rack it... would not go all the way up the ramp, but smacked a few times.

My MK3 22/45 Lite with TK compensator, new Bushnell sight, and TK +1 bumpers. Internals have a few alterations including the Majestic 3.2 trigger kit... sweet... reduced trigger creep by about 2/3, got rid of magazine safety, and now mags drop free. Need to sight in this new sight, though. Got it for my Glock/Mech Tech .45 carbine but there's no on/off switch... just a light sensor to turn the dot on! That doesn't seem good for a "tactical weapon"!! I took the Bushnell TR25 sight off this pistol and put it on my carbine. I still need to make final adjustments at the range... did use my boresighter to approximate settings.

While I was fiddling with my Lite's mags, I took the rest apart and chocked the plungers in my drill and used 320 grit sandpaper to "smooth" them a bit. I didn't polish them, though. Someone else suggested to another party to polish the plungers to allow better compression and smoother operation. I then added a bit of Tetra oil to my fingers and lightly lubed the springs and the plungers.

I know that everyone doesn't have a bunch of the wrong mags sitting around, but maybe!

Anyhow, thought this might be helpful.

Nice setup Wynn, the plus one bumpers fit well on that thing, look good.

Can you believe that the sight is turned on by a presence of light... on a "Tactical First Strike" accessory?? That just wouldn't work on my home defense carbine!

Light sensor on front of sight. What if it's dark??
