Trop Response to Glock Blue Label Program TerminationTrop Gun Shop regrets to inform our customers that we will no longer be participating in the Glock Blue Label program. Effective immediately, Glock terminated us from the program for refusing to furnish access to our customers’ private information for the purposes of auditing by Glock employees. While it is regrettable that we will no longer be able to offer the benefits of the Blue Label program here at Trop, we absolutely refuse to compromise the sensitive information of our customers by furnishing it to anyone without proper authority through standard legal practices.
To participate in the Glock Blue Label program a dealer must allow Glock access to audit “qualifying credentials” of its Blue Label customers. Typically these credentials are a form of identification verifying the individual is a member of one of the groups listed in the Blue Label program.
Recently a representative of Glock entered our establishment and demanded access to view our records related to all Blue Label sales, specifically our ATF Form 4473s, which contain very detailed, personal and identifying information of our customers. We refused the Glock representative access to this information.
During repeated correspondence Glock continued to demand access to the 4473s or we would be terminated from the Blue Label program. We attempted to reconcile the situation while maintaining our customers’ privacy and made every effort to comply with reasonable requests to audit the Blue Label sales to maintain the integrity of the program. However, Glock insisted that access to the 4473s and only access to the 4473s would be a sufficient level of compliance.
Our position was, and continues to be, that we will not surrender to Glock our Form 4473s and our customers’ identifying information under any circumstance. It is an untenable breach of our customers’ privacy and Trop Gun Shop will not submit to this unreasonable demand. As a result of our position, Glock immediately terminated our status as an authorized participant of the Blue Label program. Furthermore, Glock advised us that if we ever applied in the future, that request would be denied. While we are displeased that we can no longer support our qualifying customers through the Blue Label program, Trop Gun Shop remains committed to the security and privacy of all of our customers, and continues to offer its Law Enforcement / Military discount to those who qualify.
Regards,
Trop Gun Shop

Ofgs...I can well understand why Glock would want to be able to credential verify/audit Blue Label sales. Don't want that? Don't buy Blue Label.

They don't need 4473s to do it. A copy of the buyer's work credentials , which was required when i bought a Glock thru thev program, would verify they were eligible. Cudos to Trop Shop!

What information is on a 4473 that wouldn't be normally collected by an auditor to check program compliance? We all know the answers to the questions on the form will pretty much be the same otherwise, you cannot purchase the gun.. That leaves name, address...., birthdate? It is not uncommon for manufacturers to want to get demographics of who is buying there products. That way, they can tailor the product to the buying audience. By no means am I defending Glock. Personal information should not be passed out unless the owner of that information agrees up front. Not sure if Glock asks for that agreement as part of criteria to participate in the program. I am not familiar with the Blue Label program and am just curious.

Home address, height & weight, potentially social security numbers if the applicant provided it, info on other firearms if included in the form, etc. None of that is any of Glock's business (no pun intended).

Have blue label buyers sign a waiver .... see if they do. Do they know other shops provide this info? Could be shakey legal grounds.

Precisely. IMHO Trop needs to grow up and get over themselves. It sounds like the wanted out of the program and manufactured an excuse to do so. Blue Label sales income is miniscule.

..... and driver's license or state issued "firearms permit" number

nope, that combination of data ain't for public consumption in my opinion.

what is the blue label thing, never hard of it. I bought my G43 a couple of weeks ago and had to show drivers license and then fill out form 4473. Utter than that I was ask nuttin and I have a ccw lifetime Indiana permit but they didn't need it either. We really gave no idea eiter what these gun shops do with form 4473 either. They can sell the mailing list without our knowledge, they are ot under any obligation to cover our asses, to my knowledge.

My dealer is a very very large Glock dealer and I would have thought if the Blue Label thingf was advantages to his business he would have mentioned it...

Jocko is admitting of not knowing something :boink:
it is a discount offered from Glock for 1rst responders & military, S&W also offers a similar discount but you never hear anybody complaining about it.

It's not nice to trifle with Jocko. No man, except for possibly Muggsy, can know everything there is to know about everything. Even I have forgotten a few things. Where the hell are my car keys? :)

You're right, shops CAN sell your info. But, nobody can demand to see a 4473 except ATF. Even local PD cannot demand it, without a warrant for the specific 4473 in question.

I have worked at ranges, helped folks fill out maybe two or three hundred 4473's, have filled out my share too, and I have a good working relationship with a few dealer's, small shops and small FFL transfer guys. I don't know one instance where one of those shops would sell the 4473 information. Those guys have a "screw 'em" attitude towards ATF and Uncle Obama, and pretty much keep 4473's as one of their "gotta do" things.

Big place like Cabelas, Gander, Cheaper-than-Dirt, etc etc, I dunno. Some corporate stuffed shirt liberal butt-ranger might have a "screw 'em" towards gun buyers and see a way to climb the corporate ladder a rung by getting income from the information.

Just sayin'!

^ Not convinced Glock actually demanded the yellow sheets or all their data. Only have whiny dealer's word on that. Bet the other side of the story be different.

now I know why I didn'[t know that, I didn't qualify for either... Now that I know that I feel I am back on the 100% track of knowing everything. Just sayin. life can be a real b!tch knowing everything...

when I retired after over 40 years of gun business, we are instructed to send all of our 4473 forms intro ATF (forgot where). N doubt a central warehouse. I just took all those years forms and threw them in a big lawn mower box and shipped up the ATF. I have no doubt they have never touched that box and it is still sitting somewhere inn the dissaray that I sent that sh!t in to them. \they wold play hell trying to ever look into all those years records and finding anything....

Yeah, from back in the day. Problem(?) now be they're pretty much all done by computer entry and digitally stored.

Me, I don't much worry about it anymore. Kinda like that 93 year old Nazi prison guard that just got caught up with. At my age, whut the hell ya'll gonna do to me now anyway?

We were told we had to keep records going back 20 years, then we could shitcan them. If we were to close business, then we'd send 'em in.

No doubt, that box of Jocko's is sittin' within spittin' distance from that crate with the "Lost Arc" in it.

You know that got me thinking, I wonder how many disgruntled owners of shops that have closed have after chunking the records in a random box decided to add something extra. Maybe a mouse, a big cockroach, or some other added gift?

Actually, Jocko said he's never hard. Must be why he went to that Hooters down in Florida.... to regain his lost youth?
