I haven't had a truck for 15 years, but when I did, this old H&R Topper 12 gauge with a 19" barrel rode in a floor rack behind the seat (it now sits in the closet next to my computer hutch). Think I paid $48 for it at a Gibson's Discount store going out of bidness. A smith sawed it off & put the bead sight on for $10, so if it had gotten stolen, it would not have been a big loss:

I got one of those in 410 and 20ga. Not a bad gun for very little money although I think I paid a lot more than 8 bucks for mine.

I bought a .22 at Gibsons in the 1960s.

lol - I had to edit the price - left off the 4.

IIRC, H&R Toppers were usually going for about $55 then. Bought three in 20 gauge for each of my sons.

I don't have a "truck" gun but I've been thinking about getting one over the last few years. I may be banned for saying this, but if I get one it'll probably be a High Point in .45 acp. I know, I know, but they are cheap, butt ugly, so ugly I can't think of anyone ever wanting to steal one. They feel terrible in my hand, made of very cheap plastic and slippery as an eel.

But from everything I've read, they work and their customer service is pretty good. I see where Cabela's has them on sale right now and the wife is out of town and I have a few dollars burning a hole in my pocket. Might have to take a trip up to Denver and pay them a little visit.

My vehicle gun is whatever I have in my IWB holster or pocket when I'm driving. Not much point in having a gun there if I'm not with it.

I'm with you on that. They make excellent truck guns. They're reliable, cheap, ugly, you don't care when they get scuffed up, and most important of all, no self respecting theft/gangster would want to steal it. I might get me one of those Hi Point carbines because I don't think I could bring myself to spend $100-$150 on their pistols.

Thugs don't give a crap if it's ugly. If they can use it in an armed robbery, gang hit, or other crime, they'll steal it.

The great thing about the Hi Point is that I wouldn't miss it if it ever did get stolen.

I agree. My truck gun is the one on my person. No taking a chance on a BG stealing one from the glove box. tom.
