My ruger sr22 seems to do fine with cci and remington but when I shoot winchester or federal auto match the casing fails to extract frequently. The extractor will be in the right spot on the case but it just skips right over the rim leaving the shell in the chamber. The extractor does not seem to have a lot of spring tension but it doesn't look chipped or broken. The cases usually require field stripping it and prying the case out with the blade of a knife. This makes for a pretty lousy range session I haven't contacted ruger yet. Any input or suggestions would be appreciated.

Gene, I had an issue with mine when new. Nothing like what you're describing, but I contacted Ruger on the phone, and a pre-paid shipping label was sent to me the same day to return it to them. Had it back in 6 or 7 days, and it's been perfect since. I know this isn't much help to you in fixing your problem. Just a testimonial to their service I guess. It was the second time I've had to rely on Ruger's customer service, and both times were satisfactory by me. Hope you get it figured out!

It could be a number of things. Rough chamber, bad extractor, weak extractor spring, etc. I agree with glock 2619. Send it back to Ruger or continue to shoot CCI and Remington.

You might find.... that the waxy coating of some brands of ammo, or their brass composition is giving you fits.

Since you have to pry out the casings, its not an extraction problem.

Its not too unusual for some .22 guns to just not a certain kind of ammo, although.... Ruger is usually able to get their guns to cycle the kitchen sink and then some.

Not familiar with the SR22 design, but... I'm sure it has a firing pin stop, that eliminates chamber dings while dry firing. If that's not right, for whatever reason, and you developed a ding at the edge of the chamber, your gun would do exactly what you're saying - if the ding isn't too bad yet.

You could have a look at that, but... really.... Ruger will fix it. Dunno if you'll get a prepaid label, and be sure to explain how it doesn't work with the exact name brands, and type of ammo you described, or they're liable to try it with the ammo they have, and it wil work just fine.

both of these work all the time, everytime, fire any ammo that fits (unless it's a dud round). check the pricing, sure you can find something.

I bought it slightly used. Will Ruger still fix it? And yes it has a firing pin stop and there is no peening from the firing pin slamming onto the chamber (because of the block)

Yes they will fix it - Ruger doesn't care if you're the 45th owner or not. I've never had occasion to use their CS, but after hanging around on two Ruger boards for a few years everybody seems to be very happy with the way they are helped by the factory.

I sent a SR22 back to Ruger because it had a heavy double action trigger pull with tons of creep. Ruger sent it back two weeks later with a note that said that the trigger was within specs. I traded in on a Ruger Mark III .22-45 the day after I got it back.

I think you do not have a gun problem, but a ammunition problem. I have a Sig 938-22 that will not eat Winchester either. Feeds everything else fine. My issue is the same as yours, fired cases jam in the chamber, have to be pried out.

My Dad has a Ruger SR22, it will not eat Federal. Jams with it every time. Eats everything else just fine.

Friend has a Bersa Thunder 22, won't eat anything reliable unless it is high velocity.

22 semi-auto rimfire pistols can be finicky. You have to feed them what they like.
