View Full Version : In praise of the elite trigger upgrade...

I know Jocko will be along to tell me how I wasted my money but...
That old K9 model K9091 pistol I bought a while back had a trigger that just went on forever before breaking. Since I only paid $350 for it I didn't want to spend the money to send it to the mothership for the trigger upgrade so I ordered the magic three parts; trigger, spring, and bushing, and dropped it off at my local death merchant (gun store) for the work. A couple hours, and about $37 later, it was ready to go.
My gosh, what a difference. It's like a whole new gun. If there is any drawback at all, it's that shiny new trigger contrasting rather sharply against the aged patina of the nickel plated carbon. Doesn't bother me one bit, though. It's a shooter, and a carry pistol, not a show toy.
I heartily recommend the upgrade if anyone has an older model K with the standard trigger. It's well worth it, especially if you have a good local gunsmith to do the work. Just order the elite trigger, elite bushing, and elite spring from Kahr. Make sure the little bent piece of the spring is installed down toward the trigger.

I'll echo your report. I own both a very early K9 and a newer one with the elite trigger installed. One I didn't like to shoot because of the trigger and the other I do. IMHO, it's what makes the gun worth having. Now if only the enhanced trigger were available. Maybe one day.

Its never a waste of money if u do a mod and it pleases u. My point is you gained a 1/8" less travel AND THAT IS ALL. If it works for you then it was a great deal..Port the fokker and u really have a shooter. Just sayin

Do you have the part numbers for the upgrade parts by chance?

They're all online at Kahr's website. Just go here (http://www.kahr.com/Parts/Kahr-K9-Elite.asp) and, under the frame assembly tab, find the trigger, trigger spring, and trigger spacer.
One note; I also bought a trigger pivot pin just in case they (or I) boogered the original one up too much getting it out. Well, that particular pin is shorter and has a larger head on it than the pivot pin on the older carbon steel K9s. My frame doesn't have the bevel in the frame that starts behind the trigger and curves up in front of the slide lock. So, although the trigger parts will fit, don't bother with a new pin.

$25 for parts and kahr wants $125 to do the job? Damn that's a high markup.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

ol jocko's report on the G43 andf the PMJ9
Well I got my G43 bacvk this week from Magna port , and installed the dawson fiber optic sites on it and took it out for a trial run. shot a 100+ rounds and Ihave alot of proted guns (all of them) and this one feels great ported. I can certainly tell and feel a difference. Shbot thge PMJ9 a 100+ rounds and had 3 lite strikes and this just doesn't happen, so home I wqent and I checked my records etc and I see that I installed the 5# striker at round 2K, which today is over30k ROUNDS LATER. sO i FELT THIS MIGHT BE THE ISSUE, SO i TOOK THE SLIDE ALL THE WAY DOWN and pulled everything out of the slide that moved and I must say thge slide was spiffyclean insdie. I expected some sh!t in there even though I use that clean out hole everyt time I clean the gun, but it was totally clean, no buildup at all. (proves my pont that using the clean out hole once the channel is clean is all u ever need to do. I had a new 5# striker in myt parts bin so I measured the difference of the one that gave the lite strikers. Irt was 4 coils compressed, So I installed a new 5# striker spring and put everythinbg back as it was, with a dry striker channel. Took the wofe out to the range to shoot the G43 andI my PMJ9, . I fired over 2 00 perfect rounds through the PMJ9,,so my issue was a worn out spring. I should have replaced it a long time ago, butif it ain't broke, I don't fix it, LESSON LEARNED. the wife shot the G43 really great, shecold do all the fundamentals, rack, unloade, clearn and the ported Glock let her shoot 150 rounds very easily. She outshot me at 10 yards, and that pissed me off, so Imoved her and I in to 7 yards, thinking that ol jocko would now whow her how the cabbage is cut. WRONG, . I do wanna say the trigger on the G43 even after I dod some upperr slide polsihing work on it just totally SUCKS. Its creepy, gritty, and to manyt stageing areas. unlikde my pMJ9 that is totally smoot with not ne staging area--Loooong by what a difference. Glock really lakcs a decent trigger out of the box IMO. I would like to think with more rounds down range it will smooth up some, but when I got this gun the trigger by my gauge was 11# (no sh1t) and I worked the upper side parts to a mirror finish and it dropped dwon to around 7.5-8#, which is OK but still no smoothness at all.
I did install the Taren +1 floor plate and i GOTTA TELL YOU THIS IS THE FINEST MACHINED FLOOR PLATE THAT i HAVE EVER SEEN, AND INSTALLED IT IS MAYBE A 1/4" LONGER THAN THE 6 ROUND GLOCK MAG, A VERY NICE ADDITION. IMO the G43 is a very very nice 9mm, its small but one inch longer than my PMJ9 and heavier also. It pocket carrys very nicely for me though in the same uncle Mikes #3 pocket rig. The dawson sites are awesome, but I forgot to locktite the front screw in site and it fell off while shooting and I was very luckyt to find the little screw to..LESSON LEARNED.
If you have the 5# striker, I would suggest that at least at 10K rounds replace the striker spring, error on the side of caution, especially if it is your carry peace.Thank God for thatt little coat hangerr tool that someone on her cameup wioth to take the kahr slide apart with ease. Totaly took the work out of it.
anyway PMJ9 is back in my front pocket again and I feel really good about it again. I must say I did shoot the PMJ9 better thn i EVER DID but keeing them all in the FBI bowling pin silhouette target at 10 yards should for most of u guys be a no brainer.
One thing I havenoticed with my PMJ9 and even the G43, was the first round out of every magazine was a real stringer. way off target and then the rest settled down. Ihad this same issue with mypARA cARRY 9. THAT FI8RST ROUND NO MATTER WHAT i DID WAS A STRINGER, AFTER that it zeroed right in. I have read where this happens on many guns..

+1 on the coat hanger thingy. Makes the striker removal a breeze.

That's the "Ripley Retractor", named after the multi-talented, handsome and modest creator. First débuted in the Kahr section of the Glock Forum many years ago. Simple and it works. Here's a photo of one in action holding the spring at bay to ease the removal of the back plate.

Just so i wouldn't be sued for patent infringement i made the hanger ends shorter so it sits closer to the slide and put a U- bend on the breech face end and have a little handle to hold onto. But in tribute to the inventor I named it the "Ripley's Believe it or Not Retractor. "

I see your join date and can't believe you are not familiar with this. You have just experienced the ADHD disorder of some of us here in Kahrtalk. Its not complete until someone post a picture of a very attractive female and itxi states that some parts are too big.
Good info on your trigger upgrade though.;) Thanks for sharing.

The, "Look, a squirrel" syndrome. I'm familiar. Just another derailment that doesn't make the news.
