Today was the second time I've been to the range with my new CM40. I put 225 rounds through it last week and another 100 today. When I disassembled it to clean it today, I noticed that the recoil spring was bent. Has this ever happened to anyone else? The gun has functioned practically flawlessly (other than a broken follower after about 25 rounds today). I cleaned it after I returned from the range last week and the spring was fine, so it must have happened while shooting today.

Would this be covered under warranty? I noticed on Kahr's site (http://www.kahr.com/Pistol-Parts/Kahr-005CM40-Recoil-Assembly.asp) that the spring appears to be sold with the assembly. In the event that it is not under warranty, is there another place to purchase just the spring?

That's a first for me, never seen one tweeked quite like that.

You can certainly email that photo to Kahr Customer Service and see what they say. Ask what they think happened and mention the broken follower at the same time.

I'm sure they will send a follower, and probably the spring too but can't say for sure.

I would think so after seeing your picture.

I had emailed Kahr yesterday about the broken follower. Within 20 minutes I received a response that a replacement would be sent. After I cleaned my pistol and discovered the bent spring, I sent a follow up email to the same service rep, with the pictures, explaining what had happened. I'm waiting to hear back.

Update: Heard back this morning and they are sending a replacement spring. Kudos to Kahr's excellent customer service!

The new recoil spring and assembly arrived today. Is it okay to take the larger spring off the assembly when cleaning, oiling, etc.? If so, would you guys recommend simply putting the new spring on the original assembly since that has been "broken in" with approximately 350 rounds? Or would you replace the spring AND the assembly with the new replacement? If I do that, will that require that I go through the initial 200 round break-in procedure again before using it for EDC?

I do not have any real experience with the problem you had, but if it was me I would throw away the old assembly and use the new one. I doubt you would have to do another "break-in" although when you replace the new assembly you will find the new spring to be very stiff. After you shoot it the first time the spring will easier to install. On my CM9 I clean and lightly grease the guide without removing the outer spring. Glad to hear customer service took care of you.
